Sanatan Soccer Tournament Returns to Canada With Teams From Five Nations.

The 10th Annual International Sanatan Convention Soccer Tournament will kick off this weekend at Mills Wood Recreational Centre in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
Hosted by the Sanatan Sports & Cultural Society of Alberta, the tournament will feature 8 teams in the Premier Division, 8 in the Masters and Legends Division, and 3 youth clubs from Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. With $14,000 in pool prize money and several prestigious cups on the line, competition is expected to be fierce.
The tournament, which began in 2004 in Sydney, Australia, is held every two years and rotates among Fijian Sanatani communities in five countries: Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Canada. This year, Edmonton is the host city, welcoming clubs from all five nations.
The last time Canada hosted was in 2012, at McLeod Stadium in Langley, B.C.
Clubs from various countries will descend on Mills Wood Park starting Friday midday, with matches set to showcase a high level of international competition.
Praveen Lal, head of the organizing committee and the Governor of the host tournament nation, said:
“Preparations are done to the fullest, and we welcome all participating teams. We’re anticipating a strong turnout and a great weekend of soccer.”
The weekend program begins with the 5 Nations Governors’ Meeting tonight (Wednesday, August 20), followed by the Managers’ Meeting on Thursday, August 21. A ceremonial Pooja will take place on Friday, at 8.00am before the kick off at 12 midday.
The official opening ceremony of the tournament will take place on Saturday. Pool games will run through Friday and Saturday, with the knockout stages and trophy presentations concluding the event on Sunday.
