Junior Derby Weekend

Last weekend, our Titirangi juniors proudly represented Waitakere in the U13 and U15 Derby competition.

The Derby serves as an important lead-up event to the New Zealand Junior Championships in Palmerston North this July. It provides valuable match experience and an opportunity for players to test themselves against strong opposition from other associations.

Our Titirangi players are experiencing representative badminton for the first time and both the U13 and U15 teams are in their inaugural year. The weekend was a fantastic opportunity to build their confidence, develop team connections, and gain valuable experience in a representative environment.

We are incredibly proud to have so many Titirangi players representing Waitakere. Their commitment, effort, and sportsmanship throughout the weekend were a credit to themselves, their coaches, and their families.

A huge congratulations to all players involved, and we wish them the very best as they continue their preparation for the New Zealand Junior Championships in July.

Badminton New Zealand are running an online Umpire Training Module.

With support from the Technical Officials Committee and several experienced umpires, Badminton NZ will deliver an online umpire training module for trainee umpires.

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to officiate confidently.

It is free to attend and would be ideal for Players, Coaches, Parents or anyone interested in learning more about officiating badminton.
The module will run over three weeks in May, with each session lasting two hours:

Session 1 – Thursday, 7 May, 7:00–9:00pm
Session 2 – Thursday, 14 May, 7:00–9:00pm
Session 3 – Thursday, 21 May, 7:00–9:00pm

Entries close next week for the North Island Masters Open, proudly hosted by Wellington North Badminton Association. As this event takes place one month before the first Masters and Vets ties, it’s a great opportunity for players to shake off the cobwebs and get match‑ready for the 2026 North Island season!
