The Overhead Trifecta
Shoulder Press, Push Press, Push Jerk

You can push jerk more than you can push press, and you can push press more than you can shoulder press. No secret there.

But did you know that most can push press roughly 30 percent more than they can shoulder press and push jerk roughly 30 percent more than they can push press? 

Although not an obvious core-to-extremity movement, the shoulder press requires midline stabilization.

At AKL we reinforce the importance of core strength for movements such as overhead pressing with what we call Midline Finishers. A couple times a week we finish the workout off with a focused core circuit so when it comes to overhead pressing we have the strength to brace and resist hyperextension of the lower back as we press.

Hero WODs are more than a test of fitness. They serve as an opportunity to honour and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

This Anzac Day we throw down in remembrance for the fallen of all wars and acknowledge the sacrifice of returned and current servicemen and women, past and present with the Hero WOD “BRADSHAW”
