Auckland Speedway Riders Club is deeply saddened by the passing of ๐๐๐ฌ ๐๐ฐ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ซ - a stalwart of NZ motorcycle speedway.
An Auckland Speedway Riders Club (ASRC) Life Member and former President, Les was heavily involved with the club through the 1970s and into the 1980s, dedicating countless hours to helping physically build the clubrooms alongside Dave Tompkins.
Les also played an important role in the administrative and organisational side of the club. Long-time member, Sandy McPhee said his behind-the-scenes contributions were extraordinary.

He also claimed fame on the track with his Vincent sidecar, winning multiple national titles, just like his dad. The Dwight familyโs passion for sidecars is an often-told story in speedway circles.

On May 17th, NZ and UK speedway lost one of the greats โ ๐๐จ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐ฌ.
The legendary British-born rider had extraordinary skills on the dirt and grasstrack with an outstanding career through the 1950s through to the '70s. After arriving in New Zealand in the early 1960s, Western Springs became Bobโs home track, where he built an incredible legacy in the sport. Across an extraordinary international career, Bob reached four individual World Finals, won the inaugural World Pairs Championship alongside Ivan Mauger in 1969, claimed the New Zealand Championship in 1966, and in 2014, cementing his significant contribution to the sport, was inducted into the NZ Speedway Hall of Fame.
At Rosebank, Bob will be remembered just as much for what he gave back to the sport. He was passionate about supporting junior riders, always willing to share his time, knowledge and encouragement with the next generation. He even popped in for one of our last meetings this year. Bob and his family's contribution to the Auckland Speedway Riders Club at Rosebank and the wider speedway community leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with Bobโs family, friends, and all those throughout the speedway community feeling this loss.
Thank you for everything, Bob. Your impact on Rosebank and New Zealand speedway will live on for many years to come.

The ANZAC Remembrance Meeting drew out one of the biggest crowds of the season. Here are our highlights:
โข A special send-off for Jaymee Allsop-Smith and Jayden Sardelich as they raced their final laps at Rosebank in the quarter midget class. Jaymee now moves on to join HLR Racing NZ in the F2 midget class โ make sure you follow her journey on their socials and catch her at a track near you next season!
โข The track was flying, with two classes smashing records:
โ Mark Galbraith set new 1-lap and 6-lap records for the Flat Trackers
โ Chris Jennings and Mitch Brady set new 1-lap and 4-lap records for the Classic Sidecars on the Kawasaki ZX-10 โ in their very first meeting out here!
โข We also raised a modest amount for Papatoetoe RSA through poppy donations. Huge thanks to everyone who gave a koha, and to our returned services guests for joining us โค๏ธ
