After an extensive interview process, Athletics Auckland is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Halliday as the Athletics Development Manager - CNW. Michael will commence his employment with Athletics Auckland on Tuesday 2 June.
Michael is a sport development professional with experience across community sport, coach development, club development and Youth athlete programs in Auckland.
Having worked across multiple sporting codes and environments, Michael has been involved in strengthening club environments, developing both adult influencers and youth athletes, and creating meaningful opportunities for young people and volunteers in sport. This work has included leading coach development initatives, supporting club governance and strategy, facilitating cross-code collaboration, and designing programmes that prioritise positive sporting experiences.
Prior to joining Athletics Auckland, he has worked within Sport Auckland as a Youth Sport Advisor, supporting schools, clubs, coaches and community organisations throughout Central and East Auckland, focusing heavily on coach learning and development, volunteer capability, youth-centred approaches, and helping organisations navigate the changing landscape of community sport.
Alongside his professional work, Michael holds governance and leadership roles within community sport, including being a board member of Te Papapa Rugby and Sports Club, and football coach at Epsom Girls Grammar School.
Michael is passionate about building strong sporting communities, developing people, and challenging traditional approaches to participation and development where needed. Leaderboards after Round 3 of the Snr Winter League.
There has been quite a bit of movement on the overall Leaderboard, with the biggest mover being our winners from last year, Night Ninjas moving up from 5th place last week to 2nd place this week, and Lynndale Athletic and Harrier Club moving up from 8th place to 5th place.
Owairaka Athletics is still holding onto the top position with Auckland City Athletics Club and Pakuranga Athletic Club sharing 3rd position this week.
What will happen during the next round? It is still early days and anything can happen. Remember, the more runners you have running events, the more points you will gain. So encourage your runners to compete.
Next event is on 13 June - the Auckland Teams Cross Country Championship. Just a reminder that you need to enter individually for this race and it is not forming part of the Grand Prix series this year. The winning teams on the day are made up out of the first relevant number of athletes finish positions on the day. All runners contribute to teams' placings by keeping other club runners further back in the field.
