FCANZ - Fencing Contractors New Zealand gives some great insights on how to install gravity retaining walls!
⚒️ Getting the footing accurate is crucial
⚒️ The base course always takes the longest. Once this course is installed and true to line, the remaining courses are easier to place.
⚒️ The blocks are like a Meccano set

Stonebloc's shear key is a unique interlocking design that plays a key role in the performance of the Stonebloc®️ system.
The shear key is a cruciform tongue & groove design that interlocks the blocks in both horizontal directions. It provides a strong and secure connection between the blocks, which helps resist lateral forces.
Here's why the shear key is so important to Stonebloc:
✖️ It meets the NZS3101 code Part 1 2006 Section 7.5, which is a safety standard for the shear strength of members
✖️ It allows for faster installation, increased strength, and modularity
✖️ It reduces the risk of overturning
✖️ It improves seismic performance

The Stonebloc range has 11 different blocks (with more to come 😉). Each block is a variation of 2 core sizes - 800 and 400.
As a general rule:
🧱 The top layer of a Stonebloc wall will have either a Capper or Flat Top Block to ensure a smooth finish to the wall
🧱 The second layer will have a 400 wide standard block.
🧱 The subsequent layers will have base blocks of varying sizes depending on the height and surcharge on the wall.
