Here at the New Zealand Falcons we KNOW that it is never too late. Whether it’s to improve your mental wellbeing, or to try something you’ve never done but always wanted to! 💚🖤

Trying new things, meeting new people and learning new things about ourselves is such a vulnerable pursuit. It can feel uncomfortable and embarrassing, like you shouldn’t be doing it, that it’s too late. But believe us when we say that the voice telling you all of these things, is just robbing you of some amazing things that are waiting for you to grab them 💚🖤

The Falcons are waiting for you to grab us, and we know firsthand that all of these things that promote mental wellbeing can literally be lifesaving. We’re probably biased but we genuinely believe you can find them with the Falcons 🦅

We’re always open for you, we’re here to welcome and support all who are Falcons-curious 😘

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the New Zealand Falcons are exploring different things that contribute to mental wellbeing.

We believe that REACH OUT goes both ways 💚🖤

People experiencing mental distress can find it almost impossible to reach out for help, even to their closest friends and whānau.

As friends and whānau, it’s important to step up and reach out, creating a safe environment for our loved ones to have these conversations.

You don’t need to have all the answers, so maybe this week reach out to someone? Whether you’re experiencing mental distress, or know someone who needs support, challenge yourself to reach out. It can feel vulnerable and uncomfortable, but it’s worth it 💚🖤

Our very own Isaiah took some beautiful shots of our touch muster on Saturday, so we obviously had to share them with you!

It was such a great day of games, learning, laughing and meeting some great new people, we wish we could do this every Saturday 💚🖤

Thank you to everyone that came down and dove right in to having a run around. It can be a little scary and vulnerable trying out something new for the first time and we hope you’re glad you did!

A special shout out to touch coach Devin for organising this and to everyone that helped out 💚🖤

You can still join us on Wednesday evenings, 6.30pm at Cox’s Bay - flick us a DM if you’re keen 🦅

Please join the New Zealand Falcons in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week 💚🖤

Mental Health Foundation of NZ has set the focus of belonging this year, with the whakataukī KO AU KO KOE KO KOE KO AU, I am you and you are me. This feels very pertinent to LGBTQIA+ communities like ours, whose mental wellbeing is improved massively by a sense of belonging and connection to communities.

This is core to the kaupapa of the NZ Falcons, and we know for many clubs and organisations such as ours! The reason we invite you to join us so passionately is that everyone in the Falcons whānau has found a sense of belonging with the club. We want this sense of belonging for you too!

We’d love to know - what provides you with a sense of belonging?

CONGRATS! You’re gay!

This International Coming Out Day, the New Zealand Falcons want to take a moment to acknowledge that everyone has a different journey to take when it comes to coming out 💚🖤

For some, it’s not safe to come out, for others they’re not ready, some may be in position where they’re coming out repeatedly, and others may feel that they shouldn’t have to. While our stories may be familiar to those around us, we all navigate these stories differently and that is A-OK 🫶 You don’t owe coming out to anyone, it’s important to honour your journey on your own terms surrounded by people who support you.

As always, send this to someone and congratulate them for being gay, or send it to them because maybe they need it 💚🖤

The New Zealand Falcons is nothing without our people, which is why this year it was an easy decision to award the Urge Events NZ Team and Community Award to Mark Shields 🦅

Mark is an original Falcon, here since our 2013 beginning, and even before then! He has played well over 100 games for the Falcons, and his dedication to the club is unwavering.

Our Mark is invested in our history and in our legacy, coordinating the displaying of Falcons memorabilia and keeping records that are vital for recognising the foundations of inclusive rugby in Aotearoa. He takes great care and energy to ensure that people are recognised for their contributions to the club, organising trophies, creating new ones and looking out for our club mascot, Cox.

Mark holds many important relationships with our community and partners, organising fundraisers with Eagle Bar Auckland , Steven Oates , Urge Events NZ , Bunnings sausage sizzles and many others.

I hope you can join us in celebrating Mark and this well earned, well deserved award 💚🖤

Thank you to Urge Events NZ for sponsoring this award, it’s an important symbol of recognising our people and continuing to make them feel seen, appreciated and belonging to this whānau 🦅

The New Zealand Falcons are a whānau made up of people of ALL genders and we want YOU to know that all genders are welcomed and celebrated here 🖤💚

Whether you’re interested in learning and playing touch, union piques your interest, or you just wanna get involved in the Falcons community, there is PLENTY of space and support for you 🦅

We hope to see you in the DMs and at our trainings very shortly… perhaps we’ll even see you at the touch muster tomorrow?! Get in touch!
