NZ CHRISTCHURCH DOJO CONTINUES – GOLD COMES HOME 🏆🇳🇿
TJ Illes fulfilled the promise of the Ungrateful 1’s, capturing the NJPW TAMASHII Tag Team Championships alongside Trent Hooper this past weekend at MAYHEM in South Auckland.
Less than 24 hours after the event, TJ, the Christchurch native, returned home, bringing the gold back to the CFC mats to lead the Christchurch Dojo training together with Karl Webber.
The path from the Dojo floor to the TAMASHII stage was on full display at MAYHEM, highlighting the backbone of the NZ Dojo’s core roster. Trent Hooper and Sean Tohi, who trained at the NJPW Dojo in Tokyo, Japan, were joined by "Toothless" Nico Bell, a proud son of Ōtautahi, who faced Johnny Recon in his first singles match. Kam Ahhing and Thor Keith emerged as part of TAMASHII's next wave, sharing the card with long-standing Senior Senpais, The Pretty Boys. The TAMASHII roots of former champions Magic Mark and Pretty Richie trace back to the inaugural event at Christchurch’s Pioneer Recreation & Sports Centre in 2022. True to the Dojo grind, both TJ and Trent served on the ring crew as NZ Dojo trainees at that event.
While our Auckland Pro-Wrestling Community Classes have resumed their schedule this week, the Christchurch Dojo continues into its fourth week this coming Sunday in partnership with Canterbury Fight Centre.
With one-half of the tag team titles now resting firmly in the Garden City, Canterbury proves once again that it is the breeding ground for champions.
Open to all skill levels, your journey to greatness starts here.
