"Don’t hope. Learn and plan."
One of the joys of pregnancy yoga is hearing how yoga made all the difference, especially from second, third and fourth time mums who wanted to empower themselves to a better birth.
Some antenatal classes are better than others, it seems at doing this. There is a trend towards some classes at the moment which mums say taught some good skills and gave the partner a significant role in the labour. This can seem appealing to pregnant women, depending on the partner they have. But yoga gives you the internal strength and skills to birth well even if the dad is not suited to being your doula. "It was a game-changer for me when I realised that fathers in the delivery suite is a new phenomenon."
Successful labour and birth need practical and movement-based tools for troubleshooting like baby repositioning or coping with induction. “The yoga I learnt for coping with a posterior labour and using lots of positions, so the baby wasn’t stuck, was much more useful than the breathing and relaxation.”
