Bowls North Harbour Umpires are holding the last of their three season tournaments on

Friday, 10 April 2026 @ Milford Bowling Club

We really appreciate the support that your members give us. The tournaments enable us to provide our new members with the complete umpire toolkit they require in order carry out their duties and more recently, to hold umpire training workshops. We also appreciate the opportunities to play against those players who we are usually observing!

South Island adventures and events.
Tony competed in his first Blind low vision/Para tournament held at the lovely Barrington club in Christchurch over the weekend.
About 50/50 para and low vision. 6 games of triples, 7 ends, 1-1/2 hrs each over 2 days. Mixed teams both abilities made it a great display of helping, adjusting, patience, kindness and a lot of humour. Insightful how so many obstacles can be overcome to successfully play the game by both the players and the hosting club acquiring ramps etc from the Chch council to aid access to the greens.
Tony skipped or played 2 in the games and a bye for the last one. 2 wins, 3 lossses and points for the bye. A test for his new bowls.
Very happy. And… I got roses and a NW voucher for being his support person(wearing my MBBC shirt of course). The new MBBC shirts got quite a bit of attention and were checked out sparking thoughts for new ones for the hosting club!

Women Singles Championships

Post section of Women's Singles Championship.

On Sunday 8th of March we managed to finish Women's Singles Championship, that was rained out on 18th January.
With 9 qualifiers we have the situation when one game has to be played first, before the Quarter Finals can be played!

The qualifiers were:
Sheryl Wellington
Elaine McClintock
Jodie Cottier
Muy Chhour
Jan Gledhill
Colleen Rice
Julie Chhour
Annie McGrath
Judi Farkash

Drawn to play the first game were Elaine and Sheryl. Elaine started strongly, but Sheryl caught up quickly and eventually had a solid win with 21-14.

Quarter Finals:

Judi and Annie had a close and exciting game, 12-12 after 16 ends, then Judi managed to take off and win with 21-15.

Julie and Colleen also had a close game up till 12th end, when Colleen got some strong ends, winning with 21-10.

Jan and Muy, again an exciting game, with Muy leading up to 12-12 in the 15th end. With a 4 next Jan took off and won with 21-13.

Jodie unfortunately had to wait a while for her game against Sheryl, who continued playing well, winning with 21-14.

Semifinals:

Judi and Colleen, a quite even game to start, with Judi getting the lead with 11-6 after 12 ends. Then Colleen showed her strength and won with 21-13.

Jan and Sheryl also started evenly, but Sheryl was just too strong, winning with 21-13.

Final:

Colleen and Sheryl, a fabulous game, where Colleen continued to play very well, winning with 21-11.

Winner: Colleen Rice
Runner-up: Sheryl Wellington

Well done and congratulations to all qualifiing players!

On Saturday 7 March Men's 1st year Singles Championship was played in a Round Robin with 3 entries:

Lance Govender, Joseph Thompson and Bruce Davies

It was decided to play to 15 shots or 1 hour 30 min.

In first round Lance and Bruce had a really close and exciting game, with Bruce taking the lead and Lance quickly taking it back! This was repited 4 or 5 times, until 17th end, with Bruce leading 13-11. Then Lance came back with a final attack, winning the last three ends and the game with 15-13.

In the second round Lance played against Joe, who didn't manage to find his usual game, Lance winning with 15-5.

At this stage we had a winner, but we needed a runner-up. So in the 3rd round Bruce played Joe, who started by taking the lead, 4-0 after three ends. But then Bruce came back with a vengeance, winning with 15-7.

Winner: Lance Govender
Runner-up: Bruce Davies
Well done and congratulations to all.
