On first glance, you might suspect Raven is pure AI-generated fabrication. A fantastical superyacht with 7m canting foil arms? But most of these photos show this Baltic 111 scorching across the Atlantic to set a new monohull record for the RORC Transatlantic Race.
It’s a craft with the potential to sail so fast that it has to be limited, literally kept on a leash, restricted by its day's materials and technology. “If you don’t stop the boat, it will break in two,” warn its designers. The concept revolves around achieving and respecting extreme speed.
It’s half the time it took larger competitors, including Swan’s new flagship 128 and the Truly Classic 128, and it clips Comanche’s record, a yacht considered to be the fastest offshore racing monohull.
It crossed the Atlantic in 6 days and 22 hours. So, the Baltic 111 sailed at sustained speeds above 25 knots and at less than 10° heel – more comparable to a multihull.
Such stately heel angles are thanks to those foils. While canting foil arms like these were first conceived back in 2017 to make the America’s Cup AC75s fly, Raven’s are used more like giant stabilisers.
Post-launch, it took Raven’s crew of elite maxi sailors and technicians two and a half years to gear up this complex weapon, testing and optimising it over 17,000 Atlantic miles, before they were ready to take on this RORC Transatlantic Race record challenge.
“We know the boat’s fast, it’s just a matter of keeping it in one piece,” commented sailing master Brad Jackson on completing the record crossing.

They’ve just arrived in Cagliari. Second day out on the water. They probably still need to check a map to find Poetto… and yet they already pull a move like seasoned locals of the Gulf of Angels.
Yesterday they left the harbor around 2 pm. Out in the gulf there was a light southerly breeze that calling “useless” would already be generous. With an AC40 you can barely make a flag move.
So they get towed towards Poetto and stop offshore, right in front of the hospital. Exactly there. At the precise moment when the little wind that was left seemed to be dying completely.
And what do they do?
They hoist the sails in the middle of a flat calm.
Slowly. Calmly.
From the beach we local Cagliari sailors were watching them with that classic old-fishermen look that says we know how this works.
“These guys are just giving their sails some sun…”
“They came for a sightseeing tour of Poetto…”
Meanwhile they finish rigging everything. Which, on these America’s Cup boats, is definitely not a quick operation.
And just as they finish setting up…
Boom.
The first puffs of Mistral. And of course not across the whole gulf. Just there. Right in front of the hospital.
Exactly where they had positioned themselves.
In the rest of the Gulf of Angels there was still that dying southerly breeze that wouldn’t even move a buoy.
Now, yes — the forecast did say the Mistral would come in. We all knew it would arrive sooner or later.
But one question remains.
How the hell did these Anglo-Saxons know it would start right there?
And more importantly… right at that exact time?
Because we were standing on the beach, looking like wise old locals… confidently predicting completely wrong entry times for the Mistral.

Swiss sailor Renaud Stitelmann has won the 2025 Mini Globe Race, having sailed his 19ft plywood boat around the world via the Panama Canal.
The seasoned racer crossed the finish line at Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, just after 0100 UTC on March 8th, having sailed his 19ft plywood Globe 5.80, Capucinette 24,000 miles solo around the world.
Stitelmann had left the harbour in February 2025, having already won the 2024 Globe 5.80 Transat from Lanzarote to Antigua. He went on to lead almost every leg of the race.
“It is unbelievable. I can not realise what I have done this last year,” he said moments after crossing the line.
His Mini Globe Race boat, Capucinette, was part professionally built, part homebuilt. Multiboats in Poland completed the hull and keel, painted the boat, and installed the stainless steel fittings. Afterwards, Stitelmann built the interior, fitted out the electrics, and designed and constructed the deck.
“Round the world is something, but round the world on a small boat is something else,” commented Stitelmann. “12 months of no comfort, and it is hard to be on a small boat with the wind and waves; everything is hard on a small boat, but it was very pleasant, and I really enjoyed all of this.”
The 2025 Mini Globe Race winner now plans to rest for a few months. “I think I need it. I can see my body is really asking me to slow down,” he said.
