Hello everyone! Well here we are again – time to send you the poster and entry forms for the 2019 tournament. Yes – we are a bit early but we have had several enquiries so best we get the information out to you so that you can start thinking about your teams.
The tournament will start with the men’s doubles on 11th February and then run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and, hopefully, Wednesdays until the last week in March. We say hopefully re the Wednesdays because as most of you will know, we didn’t get enough entries for the ladies last year and really do want to get that event back on track. We probably need 8 teams to make it happen so PLEASE give this your best shot and try to find those girls who want to battle for the title !!
Entries close on the 1st February however the sooner you can enter the better. And the more the merrier – spread the word to work colleagues and friends and tell them what a great event this is. Play this year will be on newly surfaced courts at both Ngatira and Nicholson Park which will definitely help make the tennis more enjoyable and avoid stepping on the cracks !!
So let’s go. Best of luck with getting your teams together and all have a great Christmas and New Year.

Congratulations to PWC 1 and Fonterra in reaching the finals of this year’s Men’s Doubles
Last night PWC 1 defeated Westpac 1 by 3 games to 1 and Fonterra won by the same margin over Simpson Grierson. There was some great tennis – and even a heavy rain downpour could not dampen the evening
So we now have the line up for next week’s finals and look forward to seeing any of you that can make it for the grand finale to the tournament. 6.30pm at Ngatira – PWC 1 v. Fonterra in the men’s and PWC 1 v. Mediaworks in the mixed. I am sure the supporters will be there in force
See you then, Ross P

As a result of the semi finals last night, PWC 1 will play Mediaworks in the final of this year’s Mixed Doubles at the Pascoe Cup 2018
PWC 1 defeated defending champions Westpac 1 by 4 games to nil and in the other match, Mediaworks beat Russell McVeagh 3-1. Congratulations to the winners – you can resume your round robin clash next Tuesday but this time it’s for the title !!
Keep your fingers crossed for a fine night tonight for the men’s doubles semis and for next Tuesday’s finals. 6.30pm at Ngatira for both nights and hope to see some of you there
Cheers, Ross

Attached are the round robin results for both the Men’s and Mixed Doubles after this week’s matches. No matches of course for the men due to the cyclone but the rescheduled games are shown on the attachment. The last round of the round robin is on Monday evening with the semi finals on Wednesday. The mixed are finished and the semi finalists have been found with their semis to be played on Tuesday
The Mixed Doubles event this year was very keenly contested and there would be no better measure of this than to advise that 12 matches went to the 10 point tiebreak ! Amazing and certainly kept us all on our toes as the teams went to the wire to decide the winner. At the end of the day, clear winners emerged in groups 1 and 3 but two teams shared the top spot on group 2. But, again, this result was decided on the last night
Group 1 was won by Westpac with 17 points with KPMG and Chapman Tripp equal second on 12. Group 2 had PWC 1 and Mediaworks first equal on 12 and Promapp third on 10. And in Group 3, Russell McVeagh won on 14 points with Lion second on 11. The last match of the round robin saw Russell McVeagh defeat Lion 10/8 in the tiebreak
So the semifinalists are Westpac, Russell McVeagh, Mediaworks, and PWC 1 with PWC 1 being the ‘lucky loser’ for the year. It’s important to note that Groups 2 and 3 only had four games each (due to the byes) while Group 1 had 5. This was of course due to the 16 entries being split over the three groups
I guess the ‘unlucky losers’ would be Chapman Tripp and KPMG in Group 1 and especially Chapman Tripp who had two wins in their final double header on Tuesday night. Oh so close to making the last four with only one loss (to Westpac) during the tournament
We will miss the legal firm battles and the enthusiasm of National Mini Storage and those very close matches. But is has been a great tournament for the mixed teams and we hope to see you back in 2019. Thanks so much for entering this year
The finals are now on course for Tuesday 27th March at 6.30pm at Ngatira so we would welcome anyone who can come that night to see some great tennis
Cheers Ross and Ross

You will all be in for a very windy evening tonight but, at this stage, we have no plans to cancel. Indications are that there may be some light showers late afternoon before we play but they are expected to clear. And the wind might help that. I am in a meeting from 3-5pm so you won’t get any further advice from me until after that. Here’s hoping we can finally get the Mixed event underway
Cheers, Ross P

*Update* Tuesday 13/02:
In the interests of those who are awaiting some news, we have decided to abandon play tonight in the Mixed Doubles event. The weather may clear later in the evening but, at this stage, it looks like we are in for some more rain. I am ahead of my 4pm deadline but hope this earlier advice helps
As I advised on Monday, we will stick to the draw and play the games originally scheduled for next Tuesday as shown. We will catch up on this missed round at some time in the future.
Cheers,
Ross

Welcome all
Please find the draws for the 2018 tournament in the photos attached. We look forward to seeing you all compete – and hope the weather plays it’s part this season
We have ended up with 12 entries in the Men’s Doubles and 16 in the Mixed. A great result for the Mixed Doubles – double the number from last year. Unfortunately there won’t be a Ladies Doubles event in 2018 as we only received 3 entries and that just doesn’t work.
We are, again, using both Ngatira and Nicholson Park due to the number of entries. An easy option was to put most games at Nicholson with their 6 courts. But that seemed wrong given Ngatira have four brand new courts and Nicholson Park is due to replace theirs in March. So we are playing as much as we can at Ngatira and using Nicholson as overflow. You will see that one match from each group of the Men’s Doubles is at Nicholson each evening and the whole of Group 1 in the Mixed will be played there (because there are 6 teams in that group). Please also note that the games at Nicholson Park start at 7pm. That is for two reasons – one, it gives more time to battle the Auckland traffic (especially for those coming from South Auckland and the North Shore) and, second, it makes sense for the one round we need to play there each evening
Ross Morrison will be the main organiser at Ngatira and I will be at Nicholson
For those new to the tournament, it is usual practice to try and be at the courts 15 minutes before your start time.
It is intended that the finals will be played at Ngatira on Tuesday 27th March but this is very much dependant on weather and being able to complete the round robins and semi-finals by the week preceding this date
Cheers, Ross P

Morning all
I hope you all had a very happy WET weekend !! Couldn’t have been much worse but good to see the sun this morning.
Mainly for the benefit of the new companies this year, I thought we should explain the process for weather delays and how we will let you know if we cancel any evening.
First - we HATE to cancel and are very reluctant to make a decision early in the day. The Auckland weather is very fickle and can change hourly. So we try very hard to play the games as scheduled so we can finish the tournament before Easter. However, if we decide to postpone a session, we will let you know by email and on facebook. We certainly won’t do this before 4pm any day. We try to cause as little inconvenience as possible, especially given the long distances some have to travel to get to Mt Eden. I guess you can understand how many phone calls I get on a doubtful day !! Please be patient and know that I will let you know the decision on email as soon as we decide. If there is no message, then let the games begin !!
If we do cancel, then that round of matches will be deferred until later in the season. We will, therefore, stick to the dates for matches as shown on the schedule and advise later on when the cancelled games will be played
Look forward to seeing you all tonight – at this stage !!
Ross
