KMA Hapkido Fun, effective self defence using the art of Hapkido. Our classes are down-to-earth, practical & will teach you throws, joint locks, kicking & striking.

Kingsland Martial Arts is a community martial arts club that focuses on the style of Hapkido. Hapkido is Korean in origin, is eclectic in nature (in that we study a wide range of techniques, from strikes to throws) and is extremely effective for self defence. We're an incorporated non-profit club, and the instructors are volunteers. We practice Hapkido for our own fitness and enjoyment, and we love to introduce the style to new members. Classes are fun, and yet challenging; physical, but not aggressive. Come along to check us out on either Monday or Wednesday nights in Kingsland, Auckland.

Aneria did a fantastic white belt grading today. A relative newcomer to the club, she’s showing an amazing attitude. Really appreciate Aaron Hochwimmer for keeping the club running while I’ve been away and getting her to such a high level. Thanks Clinton Andrews for running the grading.

We head into a break with our kids program. We held our end of term grading with Master Aaron and Paul judging. In group 1 we welcome Thomas and Leo to the seniors, solid effort from the two youngsters. In group 2, five moved you blue belt with everyone doing a great demonstration, a real standout being from Dassah and Emo who showed the benefit of practice at home. We also progressed three others to red tip. In the final group , Violet did well and moved to blue belt in a real testament to perseverance. We then promoted Olivia to the adult program at red belt. She showed some great technique and grit to break the board. Well done. Then Freya and Lucas did their first tab grading which is how we promote junior black belts to 1st dan, doing the adult white, yellow and blue syllabus to a high standard. Well done everyone, we were really pleased with the attitude and approach and some great techniques shown. Enjoy the break.

We get asked a lot about how to tie your belt, and lord knows we spend quite a bit of time doing it for our younger members, so we put this quick video together to help our students and their parents with how to tie it up. If this doesn’t work we’ll do it from different angles.

Senior belts working last night. Many are in that discovery phase for 2nd dan counters. Some great thinking coming through. I love that in Hapkido people of different sizes and abilities can find “ their Hapkido”. The step change that 2nd dan demands in terms of understanding core techniques is large and it’s great to see the team responding to the challenge.

First day of term for our children’s classes. Great turn out for a cold winters day. Great to have Steven and Clinton run the sessions too. Appreciate all the adult support too.

Straight back from Korea and into our midyear grading. Across our 3 classes we graded 12 students ranging from white belts to black tips. The Gradings were run by Matt and Clinton with Aaron and Paul as the grading panel. Across the board the self defence was excellent and some great breakfalls too. Patterns need a bit more focus from us all. Well done to those who graded and for those that were close, keep training. Have a great holiday and see you all soon.
