Day eight, Tokoroa to Hamilton. A good day's ride despite the best efforts of transit Waikato to throw me off the bike with their cow track surfacing on the "new" bits of road. Srarted out foggy and had a puncture, the first on the trip. Then to Bunings on time (Well a couple of minutes late) at Te Rapa, Hamilton. Lovely to see Leanne, Amy, Richard waiting at Bunnings.

Fantastic day, after a very very very cold -1* degree start in Taihape. Clocked up an 1100 metre climb over 40km - but then dropped 700 metres in the following 40km. Total for today 101km. Had to buy some gloves and a hat in Taupo as start tomorrow expected to be just as cold as today.

The beauty of Canterbury, the grandeur of Kaikoura between the mountains and the sea. The picturesque Marborough make me pleased that I was born and bred in New Zealand. Don't forget to use emotional blackmail on your friends. So many families are affected by Asthma and education is critical to keeping it under control . http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/RogerHoneybun/

Day 4 started at 07:30, The hardest start so far. I faced 3 hours of Northerly winds getting out of Wellington. From about Porirua the wind got up hard on my face between 50 and 60kmh. There were times when I was hardly moving forward. At one stage I was below 6kmh and only barely on the bike. Much below that and you fall over (Clipped in remember) bit of an incentive to keep pedalling. When I got to Raumati where my sister was waiting with Anita and Evi I was pretty well exhausted, although I think that Anita and, Evi and Ilene were as distressed as I was.. But a drink and a kiss from my sister and my Wife and it was on the road again Met a couple of charming old chaps on the outskirts of Paraparaumu who were just about to get on their bikes for a ride. By then the wind had abated and it was quite pleasant. They were interested in the ride and the reason.

Day 2 all up hill and down dale. Those hills between Canterbury and Kaikoura are killers. Anyway Parnassus to Wharanui 127.5 km and I was running on empty.

Our dedicated nurses left me in Kaikoura after dinner as they continued to Blenheim so that they could make our Nelson destination on time tomorrow. I caught up with the three stooges, Rog, Anita and Evi for a drink and recap of the days highs and lows, all in all the day went without incident so join me in wishing Roger all the best for tomorrows adventure.
