🖤🖤🖤🖤💔🖤

The New Zealand Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation cannot begin to imagine the pain that Greg and Jordan are experiencing following the heartbreaking loss of their beautiful little boy, Sonny.

There are simply no words for a loss like this.

Sonny, lovingly known as “Sunshine,” brought happiness, warmth and love to everyone around him, including the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community that became such an important part of his young life.

Greg and Jordan have given so much of themselves to others and to our Jiu-Jitsu community over the years. During this unimaginably difficult time, a Givealittle page has been created by their close friends to help relieve some of the financial pressure on their family and allow them the space they need to grieve and support one another.

As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, this is an opportunity for us to stand beside one of our own.

If you are in a position to contribute, any amount, no matter how small, can help. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing the page can also make a difference.

All funds raised through the page will go directly towards supporting Greg and Jordan during this devastating time.

Our thoughts, love and deepest condolences are with Greg, Jordan, their family, friends and everyone whose life was touched by their beautiful Sunshine.

Rest peacefully, Sonny. ☀️

Tonight we had the privilege of promoting 2 of our students to a new belt colour to better indicate their level of skill as Jiu Jitsu practitioners.

The cornerstone of both of these promotions was 2 things, consistent attendance and commitment to training. Both of these students have led the way in these areas and our club is better off for it because inadvertently, they lift the level of all of the other students as well.

These promotions are not just to recognise their hard work, but also their contributions to advancing everyone at the club through their efforts.

Congratulations to Martin Lamač on receiving your purple belt. Martin joined our club as a white belt with BJJ and MMA experience and went on to earn his blue belt after a year of training with us. In that time his skill level has grown exponentially to a point where Martin isn't troubled by the size, weight or rank of an opponent, because his skillset is at a point where he has all the tools to find the solutions he needs. This is the sign of a legitimate purple belt.

Congratulations also to Charlton Philander. Charlton had trained in Wellington for about 5 months before he came here and has been with us for close to 2 years. In that time Charlton has gone through a number of progressions in his skill level, but in the last 6 months in particular, has really been able to combine everything to demonstrate that when he rolls, regardless of the outcome, it is controlled. Charlton is a legitimate Blue belt.

I can't think of a time where our club has been healthier in regards to numbers and morale. There are a number of others who are extremely close and could have been promoted tonight, but we felt that the commitment from these two deserves rewarding.

Thank you to all of you that came tonight to tautoko/support your team mates and hopefully this is motivation to all to train regularly and consistently.

Ngā mihi ki a koutou!

Over the last month we've had lots of visitors from other gyms drop in and train. There's so many benefits to cross training.

- forming connections with other practitioners and gyms
- they may pick up techniques to take back to their gym
- your members may pick up techniques from the visitors
- test your game against a new practitioner who doesn't know your tricks

Thanks Cole England from The combat centre, Jarrod Harvie from , Will from Nelson and Alex. Keep training, and look forward to catching up on the mats next time.
