Firewise with Fireman Lewis 🔥🚒

Today we concluded our two-yearly Firewise programme with Fireman Lewis! Our tamariki have absolutely loved every minute of it, and we cannot express enough how grateful we are to Lewis for the time, energy and care he puts into supporting our tamariki at Blenheim School.

Lewis has already visited us this year for Hauora Day, and then returned over the past two weeks to spend time with each of our classes. His knowledge and passion for teaching our children about fire safety has been fantastic!

A special reminder to all our whānau: Safe Meeting Spot stickers are available from the school office. Please make sure your whānau has a clear plan in place for what to do in the event of a fire. Knowing where to meet can make all the difference in an emergency.

Thank you so much, Lewis, for helping keep our tamariki safe! 👨‍🚒

Our Blenheim School Edible Garden / Māra Kai is Thriving!!

Hands up if you struggle to get your child to help w**d or water the garden at home! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ We invite you to come along on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon and see our Māra Kai sessions in action. You might be surprised to find your child racing to be the first to put on their gardening gloves, eager to water the gardens, or determined to find the biggest w**d. This week there was even a "Find the Biggest Worm" competition going on between students!

Our Māra Kai is looking absolutely incredible thanks to the wonderful guidance and dedication of Aimee and Julia. Students are learning that every part of the garden has a purpose. Our kitchen scraps are fed to our hardworking tiger worms, who turn them into "worm tea", and also used to make healthy compost, while those once-annoying leaves scattered around the school are now collected each week to help nourish our compost bins.

Next week, students will be planting even more seedlings to grow in our hothouse. These won't just help fill our school gardens—they'll also be heading home so our students can help grow beautiful gardens with their own whānau.

We're so proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, and care our tamariki are showing. It's amazing to watch them learn where food comes from while developing a real love for gardening.
