Last day to enter today for this great wellbeing price

This month is our theme is Mental Health & Wellbeing… Top of the list when it comes to good health and wellbeing is having mates we can rely on and being part of a supportive community.

Feeling connected to your community means you’re less likely to feel isolated, and more likely to have a support system in place when you go through hard times.

Farmstrong is an initiative to help farmers, growers and their families to cope with the ups and downs of farming by sharing things they can do to look after themselves and the people in their business. The great thing about it? They have a wide range of resources that can be used by anybody - whether you live on a farm or in the city.

One of those resources is their ‘Live well grow well’ book, with stories of lived-in experiences and tips and tools to wellbeing.

Tell us your top tip to wellbeing in the comments below to go in the draw to win a Farmstrong prize pack, including a ‘Live well grow well’ book, drink bottle and beanie! For bonus entries, tag your tribe and make sure to follow us and Farmstrong!

Kia ora South Wairarapa,

🌧️ MetService has updated their Heavy Rain Watch for Wairarapa and the Tararua Ranges to 45 hours from 9am 7 July to 6am 9 July.

While it's not a Warning (yet), the ground is still sodden from the recent weather. Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous. It’s expected that river levels will continue to rise which could impact some of the routes in and out of Martinborough.

Following damage to the Tawaha Sill and floodway during the recent weather, the SH53 Waihenga Bridge will now close at around 4 metres instead of 4.5 metres. This is a temporary measure until the damage is repaired.

We are monitoring the Turanganui bridge. At this stage there is no indication it will close today however this may change at short notice depending on how the weather tracks.

The Council office has closed for the remainder of Tuesday 7 July. Martinborough library is still open and Greytown and Featherston libraries are also open as service centres. You can still contact Council via 06 306 9611 or [email protected]

🚧 Road closures will be kept up to date on our website
https://swdc.govt.nz/road-alerts/

Weather warnings have been lifted but rain and wind is still expected about the region today.

With surface flooding and road closures affecting a number of roads across the district, we strongly advise that people only travel if absolutely necessary. Driving conditions are hazardous, and road closures may change at short notice. Assessments are ongoing to understand the full extent of impacts.

We have a pinned post at the top of our page with road closure information. View this here: https://www.facebook.com/cartertondistrictcouncil/posts/pfbid032kbDe5nPzpV9mv1JNdmTLQyeJTkF3XboFuLjddKtRBmzBGAjt7gf295UNj42ozdEl

The Wairarapa Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activated and is coordinating the response. A key priority is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of affected residents. This includes identifying any immediate support required, such as access to essential supplies, medical needs, and welfare assistance.

If you encounter flooding or slips:
- Do not drive through floodwaters, past slips or beyond road closures, turn around and find an alternative route
- In an emergency or life-threatening situation, call 111
- You can report flooding and slips to Council via our after-hours call centre 06 379 4030 - please note there may be wait times to get through
