I dive and spearfish and snorkle, and generally enjoy the seafood of New Zealand.

Thought I would share a little with how it's been going last 6 months. Parkrun has been a big part of getting healthier and getting stronger. I put off doing it for 2 years, but when my nephew twisted my arm I decided to do it. The 2 photos are Parkrun 01 at 150kg and Parkrun 22 at 130kg.

Every Parkrun... Coco is taking my picture so there is a visual record of change over time.

Gym visits are also 2x per week full body workout, around 45 min. Machine rows, lateral pulldowns, Incline dumbell press, machine press, cable crunch, goblet squats, leg press, romanian deadlift, Bulgarian split squat, dumbell shrugs... it's mainly about targeting the big muscle groups with the greatest emphasis being on leg strength.

I've been logging the weight loss on a spreadsheet for 6 months. The lime green sections are where weight loss has been 0.8kg or more, any less and it gets marked in medium green. What you typically observe is...you get a couple good weeks, then slows down a couple weeks while your body puts on water weight and tries to establish a "new baseline weight". But with maintaining a calorie deficit... the body can't just hold onto more and more water and is forced to drop it. So right before I have a good weigh in week where it's 0.8kg or more... I'll be up at night 3 or 4 times peeing out the water, LOL.

If I had a slightly bigger calorie deficit... I'd lose weight quicker, but the goal for this year is lose approx 40kg for the year, and develop new goals for first and 2nd 6 months of 2027 when we get past new years. Probably next year the goal will be lose 30kg for the whole year and get down to about 80kg.

One hidden benefit to losing weight a wee bit slower than you'd like... is your skin is more likely to tighten and adjust correctly. People that lose big amounts fast.... 1 to 2kg a week sustained over long periods of time, they are more likely to unfortunately have sagging loose skin around the gut at the end of it. This can cost thousands in plastic surgery to fix if you don't want to live with it.

That said, there are in fact many variables, its the speed of weight loss, how long you were overweight for, how old you are, how obese you are (starting point), genetics, and even supplementation... it's good to take Vitamin C, Collagen, and Fish oil for skin rejuvenation. Some of the points that are "against me" are age, I am 47, and also I have obese a long time.

I am still planning to make a video on Kiwi Kaimoana primarily about Parkrun, I'll get to it eventually. But things are going slow but steady with 6 months now gone from 2026. Hoping to lose 40kg by the end of the year and then keep going next year.
