Weekly kayak racing in Otautahi on the mighty Avon

Park to Pub 2024 | Race results 27/07/2024

Nice work to everyone who participated this afternoon and great to see some new faces! The weather was epic for a paddle through town. One swimmer and an exploratory scuba diver at the end to make things interesting.

The South African trend of portaging may have influenced the results....

Your favourite low cost event is back for another year! So low cost in fact that it only costs you a drink and bowl of chips once you finish!!!

With features such as the infamous Christchurch Punt House Weir, the majestical botanic gardens, and a world renowned statue by Sir Antony Gormley, this is one course that is guaranteed to impress and is not to be missed!

This year will be all about the social aspect and the mid pack battlers. Yes its still a "race" and the "elites" can try power down the course as fast as humanly possibly, but the main aim for this is to bring everyone together for a fun paddle down a piece of water that is under utilised. Once finished we can then walk across the road to Pomeroys and enjoy a bowl of fries and a drink while sharing stories from our winter training battles.

Portaging, a skill which is rarely practiced but can make a heap of difference during an event like this

Photos and results from the Marathon race today

The course was just under 1km short per lap, however with the heat it was much appreciated by the paddlers

Just a reminder there's no K2/doubles race tomorrow due to lack of interest

Photos from the short course racing this evening. It was a great evening to get out in the boat and looking forward to more action tomorrow! This will be my last time down at Arawa Canoe Club before heading overseas so it would be great to see some familiar faces.

While it's a "race" it's a great chance to tick off a long session in the boat with some company. Entries are open on the day, registration 9-9:30, briefing 9:40, race start 10am
