FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members,

With just three weeks remaining until Opening Day, I am pleased to invite you all to official commencement of our upcoming season on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at 1:30 pm.

We extend a warm welcome to our returning members, as well as any new players or individuals interested in trying bowls for the first time. Following the off-season,

I look forward to reconnecting with everyone. Given the exceptional talent within our club, we can certainly anticipate a highly competitive and exciting season ahead.

An organisation of our size cannot function without the dedication of its volunteers.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has stepped forward to fill essential roles for the coming year. Your support ensures the smooth operation of our club.

Additionally, thank you to the members who managed our bar facilities during the off-season.

I would also like to acknowledge James Aldridge and Tony Grimwood for their outstanding work in maintaining our greens to such a high standard.

Finally, a special note of thanks goes to Keith Miskimmin for his tireless dedication and the countless hours he contributes to club operations; his efforts are deeply appreciated by us all.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 5th of September at 1:30 pm. Please note that this will be a shared afternoon tea, so attendees are kindly requested to bring a plate of food.

Reminder that the Bowls Hornby AGM is this Sunday 5th July at 10am at our clubrooms. We'd like to see a good turnout of our members.

It's with great sadness that we advise Dave McHardy, a long standing member of Bowls Hornby passed away today.

Dave had an interesting career for those who may not have known, being publican at Wallacetown Tavern then known as Green Rooves in Southland and working as a wool buyer with Elders.

Dave will be missed around the club.

For anyone who wishes to attend, Dave's funeral will be held at 2:30pm at Christchurch Crematorium Funeral Services, 65 Vickerys Rd on Tuesday 26th May.

We extend our congratulations to all our winners on the final day, it was a great day enjoyed by all, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next season.
