Goals are a great way to keep us motivated.
My goal was to reach the next grade in karate by the end of this year and now that I've achieved that, my goal is to recover from a knee injury I sustained at said grading so I can run without pain by christmas.
Goals don't have to be big and you dont have to have a big list of them, but they are so much more motivating if you really plan them out.
My favorite goal setting method is to make SMART goals. Setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time specific.
So instead of "I want to lose weight" You might say "I'd like to lose 5kg by January" it's, specific, it has a timeline, it's realistic and achievable and we can measure it. Setting goals like this can help you feel in control of your journey because you know exactly what you are doing and have a plan to do it.
So I'd love to hear from you. What are your goals? How would you like to achieve them? Leave a comment below 😊
If you'd like any help setting or achieving your goals, I'd love to help, I'm still running 3x sessions for only $99 until the end of this month so absolutely take advantage of this great offer and get in touch.

Taking time to recover is just as important as putting the time in to train. Which is why taking time to rest between workouts is super important.
There are a few common ways to avoid overtraining and give your muscles the time they need to repair and grow. 1, splitting up your workouts so that you aren't working the same muscle groups two days in a row, 2. taking active recovery days, and 3. taking rest days.
Active recovery is low intensity excercise such as yoga, walking or swimming. It keeps you moving and helps with blood flow which may help with post excercise muscle pain and recovery. Active recovery can also help keep you in a routine and offer some variation in your normal excercise program.
Rest days are days where you don't perform any intentional excercise. Rest days can be important if you are injured, tired or in pain or if you just need a mental health day away from everything.
When it comes to rest days or Active recovery, I don't really have a preference for either. They both have their applications and I like using both of them as needed to ensure I don't over train or injure myself.
I always like to plan recovery days into my schedule so that I remember to take them and even though it can be hard to make myself slow down or stop if I'm working towards a specific goal or milestone, I know that if I want to see progress, it's just as important to rest as it is to work hard.

The one thing I get asked the most is "How do you motivate yourself to stay on track?"
Personally, if I had to be motivated or "in the mood" to excercise it would barely happen. Routine however, works for me. I have my calendar with every part of my week from school runs and clients to excercise and meal prepping lined up and it (mostly) stays the same each week and it becomes a habit that I can stick to.
On average, it takes about 3 months to build a new habit and once it has been formed it becomes automatic in your life, you don't have to be motivated to do it, you just do it.
You don't have to start big, it could be one dietary change, 30 minutes of excercise a couple of times a week or setting yourself a bedtime and sticking to it.
The thing is, once you have formed a new habit you can start on another and then another and keep making small, sustainable changes while giving yourself time to adjust and 2 years from now you could be living a completely different lifestyle without burning out from changing everything at once.
Slow and steady absolutely will win this race.
If you have ever considered making some lifestyle changes and building new, sustainable habits and would like guidance from someone who has personally been on the same journey, then I would absolutely love to help. Send me a message and we can make a time to sit down for a consultation. I am currently looking for clients in Christchurch and I am taking bookings now for October and November.

Starting something new can be terrifying.
There is usually a whole list of unknowns and often a good few mental and social barriers that come alongside making a long term lifestyle change. The good news is that there is support out there to help you navigate the unknowns and reach success.
So if you have ever said something like, "I want to excercise but I don't know where to start" or "I'm afraid of being judged in the gym" or "I don't like exercising alone". Then I would love to hear from you. I am ready to be in your corner, supporting you during every step of your journey.
