Over Summer Tournament Week, our Junior Boys Cricket team—combined with a group of players from Cashmere High School—competed in the Canterbury Secondary Schools Colts Festival 🏏

The team faced strong competition from across the region and delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with 4 wins from 5 games!

A huge thank you to parent coach Craig Primmer, who gave up his time to coach and manage the team throughout the tournament. We also extend our thanks to all the parents who supported the team along the way 👏

A fantastic effort from all involved, showing great teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship. A promising future ahead for cricket at Hillmorton!

Check out the recap by Senior Boys Futsal captain Dane Van Barneveld

Our experience at SISS this year was memorable because of the performance and overall team environment. Throughout the competition, we became more confident with every game. Starting our tournament with a 12-0 win helped us set the standard for what we wanted to do throughout the tournament. Due to our start, we had very much confidence we would walk this tournament, luckily for us John McGlashan gave us a reality check beating us 3-2 in our second game. This loss made us realize it wasn’t going to be all easy.
With a relaxing afternoon at the beach that afternoon, we were all ready for day two of the tournament.

Day two we found great success, especially with our plays that these teams had never come up against before. This resulted in ending day two with three wins, 9-0 verse Bayfield, 7-2 verse Otago Boys High School B and 3-1 verse Rangiora. These three results allowed us to push on to beat top of the table, Otago Boys High School, 10-0 on the last day, us finding success through finding the highest man, holding it off and getting a shot off. Another route to success being screen setting, frustrating our opponents.

In the end we played OBHS again and won 5-1, them recognizing our game plan and doing much better with stopping our previous approach.

This tournament was such a nice way to end the futsal with a group of great lads. Finally, Thank you to Mr Gibson for your relentless hard work and dedication to making us improve as a team, and having a good time alongside it. Shout out to our team manager Debbie Jones for looking after us.

Another thank you to everyone who supported us in our fundraising!!!

Senior A Boys and Girls Volleyball Nationals recap by team captains.

On behalf of both teams, nationals was a really great experience. Even though we didn’t get the outcomes we wanted, we still strove to make the best of our situations. The girls won bottom 8 in div 4 and the boys came 4th in div 2 (top 20 in the nation). Our most enjoyable team experiences were supporting each other at the games, and watching the highest level of volleyball for schools in NZ.

My favourite moment of the season was when we had to play “fast ball” at nationals. We only had 55 minutes for each game so if both teams had won a set, it came down to how many points each team had by the time the buzzer rang. We had less points than them and only 3 minutes left so we were just rushing around and having fun together on court and ended up actually winning by only one point from a buzzer-beater serve.- Keisha Byrne

My personal favourite moment of the season was when our coach (Mr Loan) put the Unc Squad on the court consisting of all the year 13s and we just had the best of times running the plays we wanted and making the best of a losing situation - Orakai Rupene

Massive shout out to team coaches, Mr Loan and Hayley Ellison who dedicated their whole summer coaching and preparing them for nationals! Another shout out to our team manger Donna Koekemoer for feeding and looking after both teams over the week.

On Friday 6th March Hillmorton had two teams competing at the Waitaha Ki-o-rahi tournament on a very hot day at Nga Puna Wai. The top team won their pool, but unfortunately lost their quarter final by 1 point to narrowly miss out on a top 4 placing. Both teams improved significantly as the day went on.
