Winter Worlds Sector Six | Tai Tapu Gravel Road Racing 22/06/2026

Sector Six is back on Sunday 12 July — Matariki weekend, so no excuses hiding in the shed pretending to “train”.

You’ll be back from Akaroa by then. Probably.

Round one was a cracker. Let’s make round two even better — the more who race, the better the racing.

Sunday afternoon. Fast laps. Gravel spice. Proper Winter Worlds nonsense.

🌧️ **SECTOR SIX UPDATE — POSTPONED** 🌧️

Bu**er.

The weather has not cleared up the way it was forecast to, and with the roads/gravel still not where we need them to be, we are going to **postpone Sector Six today**.

📅 **New date:** Sunday **12 July**
🌟 **Matariki weekend**
📍 Same place
⏰ Same Sunday afternoon racing goodness

I absolutely hate making this call, but running the event in these conditions doesn’t sit right from a safety point of view — and it also doesn’t line up with what we agreed with Selwyn District Council around running events in adverse weather.

🚴‍♂️ This is **postponed, not cancelled**.

If you have already entered, your entry will automatically roll over to **Sunday 12 July**.

💸 If you can’t make the new date, just get in touch and I’ll put a refund back through your card.

The only person truly devastated by this decision is probably The Badger, Andy Beale, who was no doubt already warming up by staring angrily at the rain.

Thanks heaps for understanding. We’ll get this thing run properly, safely, and with the full Sector Six nonsense it deserves.

🌧️ Today we stay dry.
🔥 12 July we race.

☀️ It’s not raining.

🚴‍♂️ That is basically summer by Canterbury winter standards.

💡 So don’t waste this morning “training” like a sensible person.

Training is what you do so you can race.

🏁 Today is the bit where you show it off.

🔥 Sector Six is on this afternoon — 2 pm.

⚡ Short laps.
🌶️ Fast racing.
🪨 A bit of gravel.
💪 Plenty of chances to find out whether all those winter kilometres have actually done anything useful.

🚫 Don’t train for racing and then skip the race.

B Grade at Sector Six this Sunday could be worth the price of entry all by itself.

Word around the traps is there has been a little bit of “who actually did the work?” chat after round one.

Some reckon they were towing the bunch like a farm ute with a trailer full of wet firewood.
Others reckon certain riders spent most of the race tucked in neatly, admiring rear derailleurs and waiting for the sprint.

There are rumours of a few different tribes getting restless too — the mud lovers, the Leeston smashers, the trackies with suspicious sprint speed, the gym-built diesel engines, and a few imported troublemakers who may or may not understand local customs.

No names, obviously. We are far too classy for that.

Sector Six is back this Sunday at 2 pm.

Short laps. Fast racing. Gravel spice. B Grade politics.
You do not want to miss this one.

BREAKING NEWS FROM SECTOR SIX.

One of our signs has been brutally relegated to the rubbish pile.

Current theories include:

1. It attacked first.
2. Someone was deeply offended by the words “not for soft legs”.
3. The sign looked too fast and had to be neutralised.
4. It was dropped from the bunch and found itself in a bad place emotionally.

Either way, excellent news — the sign is still promoting the race, even from its new luxury rural installation beside some pallets and a small dog who appears to be supervising.

Sector Six is back Sunday 21 June.

Round one was a cracker. Round two is looking even better.

Entries are open now, and if the signs are annoying people this much, we must be doing something right.

Also, if you happen to see any lost Sector Six signs wandering the countryside, please point them back towards race HQ. They’re young, ambitious, and clearly vulnerable to peer pressure.

Sector Six is back on **Sunday 21 June** — and it is all steam ahead.

Round one was an absolute cracker: **75 riders**, beautiful weather, heaps of spectators, hard racing, and a course that delivered big time.

The gravel has only got better since then too. It’s bedding in nicely, the lines are cleaner, and it’s getting easier to ride every week. Honestly, if the kids can get through it, the rest of us can probably stop pretending we need a new bike. Probably.

**Same place. Same time. Same good nonsense.**

Registration from **1:00 pm** at The Raspberry Café.
Racing starts at **2:00 pm**.

Please enter sooner rather than later so we can sort grades, timing, volunteers, and avoid the traditional race-director panic festival.

We also need **four lead vehicles/drivers** to help make this an even better, safer, and slicker event. If you’re not racing and you’ve got a free Sunday afternoon, come and help us keep local racing alive, growing, active, and exciting.

🚴‍♂️ Our mates at Southern Cross CX are back at Bottle Lake Hills this Sunday 🌲

Because apparently Sector Six gravel wasn’t enough questionable decision-making for one week 😅

They gave us a hand with our event, so let’s return the favour 🙌

✅ Go have a crack
👏 Cheer them on
