A blustery early-spring day greeted the 44-strong field at Greendale, along with a sprinkling of green-fee players, and despite a fresh nor’west putting a bit of bend in the flagsticks, the course continues to turn out in fantastic nick.
There were some cracking scores in the Match of the Day considering the conditions, although the wind did appear to have a hand in one particularly memorable 18!! strokes on the 8th. We’re not pointing any fingers, of course, but should the hedge mysteriously suffer any malicious damage in the near future, we may have a fair idea where to start our enquiries! 🌳😂
The tailwind also turned a few holes into considerably shorter propositions, with Michael Anderson taking full advantage by driving the 4th green and calmly rolling in the putt for eagle. When the wind’s behind you, you may as well make hay while the sun shines!
Meanwhile, the 1st Round of Men’s Club Championship Matchplay produced some tightly fought encounters, with several matches going right down to the wire — including a couple that needed a trip to the 20th hole to find a winner.
All in all, another busy day around the traps at Greendale, with spring certainly showing signs of arriving — even if the wind had other ideas!
A reminder to ALL members that next Saturday is our AGM at 9.30am followed by a free sausage sizzle prior to Match of the Day. Your attendance would be appreciated...

A grey, misty and decidedly moist day at Greendale greeted the 28 brave souls who ventured out today, with the cool conditions doing their best to keep the scores in check.
That said, some clearly hadn’t received the memo! Leading the charge was Blair Hopkins, who produced a cracking 74 off an 8 handicap — a handicap that may well be enjoying its final days of freedom!
With the day also doubling as a Stroke round for the Club Championship Strokeplay, it was always going to sort the sheep from the goats, and it certainly didn’t suit everyone. There was even a moose call reverberating around the Clubhouse afterwards… although we’ll leave the identity of the culprit safely behind the clubhouse door! 😉
A big well done to our Strokeplay Champions across the four grades:
Senior:
G Hawker
Intermediate:
M Elliot
Junior A:
J Ridgen
Junior B:
M Westland

Yesterday a healthy field of 37 turned up to find Greendale looking an absolute picture and, remarkably, having dodged the worst of the early-week snow, rain and hail. The course was at its winter best — crisp, tidy and ready to dish out a bit of punishment!
It was a Stroke round, with the men tackling the second round of the Club Championship Strokeplay, and there was certainly no shortage of hot scoring.
Leading the charge was junior Tyler Twentyman, who produced a cracking nett 68 to show the old hands what the young guns can do.
Pat Youngman also had a day to remember. After missing a hole in one on #7 by a couple of inches he carded an eagle on the 14th. There was a little interaction with the hedge along the way, but Pat emerged victorious — proving once again that around Greendale, even the vegetation can get involved in the scoring!
Next week brings the third and final round, with the results set to sort out the draw for the Men's Matchplay. So sharpen the spikes, steady the nerves and keep the excuses polished — the serious stuff is about to begin!

Sorry for the late post, saturday seen 35 members hitting the course to get there first round of club champ qualifying under way. With many struggling to start there qualifying off hot these top 7 members found a way, in this crowd we had a new member join the “raise the bat” family welcome Gary Giffkins 😀, it was a cold brisk morning with a chilly wind blowing through , but coming out nice by the end of the round. The next 2 weeks will be qualifying rounds aswell with the best 2/3 to count. Here’s to hoping the weather stays nice these next few weeks so we can see more members and greenfee players out and enjoying the weekend
