💙⚽ VOLUNTEER MONTH SPOTLIGHT – Thank You, Jo! ⚽💙

Behind every successful football club is an incredible team of volunteers, and today we want to shine a light on one of our unsung heroes – our Treasurer, Jo.

Being Treasurer of a not-for-profit community club is no easy task. From managing budgets, paying invoices, tracking registrations, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance, and helping make sure every dollar is spent wisely for the benefit of our members, it's a role that often goes unseen but is absolutely critical to the club's success.

What makes Jo's contribution even more remarkable is that she does all of this while balancing a full-time job and the demands of family life. The hours spent working on club finances are often evenings, weekends, and time that could easily be spent elsewhere. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and care she brings to the role.

When asked why she volunteers for Nomads, Jo shared:

"I volunteer because Nomads has been a significant part of my family's life for many years. Taking on the Treasurer role in 2025 was my way of giving back to a club that has provided our children with opportunities, friendships, memories and a strong sense of belonging. I am grateful to now be able to contribute and help along with the many other volunteers at the club that give up their time to support the Nomads football community and ensuring future players have the same opportunities to thrive."

But this amazing woman doesn't stop there! Did we mention she is also team manager for her son's youth team and helps out in our clubrooms on game days?!? Jo embodies everything that makes community sport special. Her commitment, generosity, and willingness to give back help ensure that Nomads remains a place where players can learn, grow, make friends, and create lifelong memories.

At our recent Annual General Meeting, Nomads United AFC was proud to award Life Memberships to two exceptional club servants, Chris Thurlow and Brendon Snelling.

Life Membership is one of the highest honours our club can bestow, recognising individuals whose dedication, service, and commitment have made a lasting impact on Nomads United over many years.

💙𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐰

Chris has been part of the Nomads family for over 50 years, contributing as a player, coach, committee member, Club Captain, mentor, and volunteer.

Throughout his decades of service, Chris has embodied the values that make Nomads special. From coaching junior players and supporting his own children's football journeys to serving on the club committee, he has always given his time generously.

Many members will fondly remember his time as Club Captain, where he ensured even our youngest players felt valued and celebrated within the wider club community.

💙𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠

Since joining Nomads in 2004, Brendon has made an extraordinary contribution across all areas of the club.

As a player, he spent nine seasons in the First Team, earning honours including Player of the Year and Players' Player while helping the club achieve league and cup success.

Off the field, he has dedicated countless hours to coaching junior and senior teams, mentoring players, and serving as First Team Manager for the past seven years.

Beyond football, Brendon has played a key role in major club projects, including the construction of our changing rooms and bathroom facilities, always willing to volunteer his time and expertise whenever needed.

Both Chris and Brendon represent everything that Nomads United stands for: service, commitment, community, and a genuine love for our club.

Please join us in congratulating Chris and Brendon on this thoroughly deserved recognition and thanking them for their outstanding contributions to Nomads United AFC.

"I volunteer at Nomads because I wanted to help my son's coaches. He's now 26 and living overseas, and I'm still at Nomads! I enjoy the connections with our community and watching the players develop their skills, both football and the social skills that come with team sport."

💙⚽ What started as helping out for her son has turned into years of dedication to the Nomads community. Rose has become one of those familiar faces who helps make our club feel like home. 🌟
