Information, custom tied flies, tuition and guiding services are available upon request. Conservation advocacy work for our freshwaters is an important aspect of the site. Wild Capture is operated by Peter Langlands- I have worked as a researcher on trout and endangered freshwater birds for government departments. Outdoor photography and writing are passions of mine.

Pictured is Finn Stevens with his four-pound brown trout caught on a mayfly nymph while taking advantage of the winter fishing season on the Opihi River.
The winter seasons on the Opihi, Rangitata and Waitaki Rivers, remain open for fly and spin methods downstream of SH1 until 31 August. We encourage anglers to get out and take advantage of the opportunity.
Looking ahead to September opportunities, many Mackenzie lakes are open year-round.
In lakes like Benmore and Waitaki, hungry post-spawn brown trout can often be found feeding close to shore at this time. Approach carefully, as these fish can be quite spooky. Try a Mrs. Simpson fly, a 7-10 gram black and gold Toby lure, or a soft plastic.
Check the current regulations online, or call the office on 03 615 8400 for enquiries.
