🏆 Who deserves to be recognised?

It's time to celebrate the people who make badminton in Canterbury special. From outstanding performances on court to the volunteers, coaches, officials, administrators and teams who help our sport thrive, we want your nominations!

Nominations are open across a range of categories including:
• Senior & Junior Sportsperson of the Year
• Most Improved Players
• Team of the Year
• Coach & Volunteer Coach of the Year
• Volunteer, Administrator & Technical Official of the Year
• Service and Contribution Awards

Being nominated is an achievement in itself and a wonderful way to recognise the people who make our badminton community so special. Anyone involved in badminton in Canterbury can submit a nomination, so if someone has inspired, supported, achieved, or contributed this season, take the opportunity to acknowledge them.

🏸 Celebrating the Success of the Canterbury Open | NZ Tour 2026

Firstly, we'd like to apologise for the delay in getting the event photos uploaded. Thank you for your patience while we sorted and prepared them for sharing.

The Canterbury Open | NZ Tour 2026, held from 21-23 August, was another fantastic weekend of badminton, showcasing high-quality competition, excellent sportsmanship, and some incredible performances from players across New Zealand.

A special thank you goes to all the players who travelled from outside Canterbury to compete. We know the commitment required to travel for tournaments, and we greatly appreciate your support in making this event such a success. We hope you enjoyed your time in Christchurch and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

One of the highlights of the tournament was that the vast majority of matches across the weekend were officiated by trained umpires. This significantly enhanced the player experience and reflects the strength of our Technical Officials programme.

This was also the first year we had a dedicated volunteer team supporting the tournament. From sweeping courts and collecting used shuttles for recycling into our training programmes, to live streaming and photography, your contributions helped create a great experience for everyone involved.
