Some kids don’t start with the same chances in life,
but here in New Brighton… we look after our own.

Got an old board sitting in the garage? Bring it in.
We’ll add some new parts to it and fix it up and pass it forward.

Have a few dollars you can spare? Even better.
We’ll use it for more new parts to build and donate complete skateboards to local youth.

Right now I have one brand new complete set-up ready to go. An anonymous donor came in and paid for a full board to give away through our Push It Forward program.

That makes youth / board #7. 🙌

We’ve also been gifted some leftover stock from the amazing crew at Cheapskates Christchurch! A generous act from truly good people who will be locally missed.

If you’d like to nominate a kid in need, send us a message or drop into the shop. The next two boards going out are going to be unreal.

Skateboards build community.

This empty department store in the UK called Debenhams, has been transformed into an indoor skatepark called Shredenhams. It’s part of a campaign in Bristol to show how derelict spaces can be creatively used in city centres to bring high streets back to life and support local communities. Skateboards, Scooters, BMX, Inlines and Quads are all welcome. The team behind it also run two other parks, called Campus Pool and Campus Park, which focus heavily on families and specially run sessions for toddlers. They also host women-only sessions, over-40s skate nights, and Talk & Skate, a powerful collaboration with men’s mental health charity Talk Club, where participants can check in, share how they’re feeling, and then skate it out in a supportive space. As high streets across the UK face rising vacancies, Shredenhams is a powerful reminder that with a bit of creativity and community backing, empty buildings can be reimagined into places of connection, movement, and joy. Wheels out in Sumner as decades-long wait for new skate park ends It took Sumner about 50 years to get a skate park over the line, but this weekend the wait was over, and locals did not hold back from taking their wheels out for a spin.

Road closure team in action, porta loos in place - were all set for karakia at 7am, yoga at 7.30am. Official opening 1pm with some mighty fine skating to follow! See ya Saturday.
