Richard Powers made an easy to read summary (http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/smarter.htm) Partly it is because "Dancing integrates several brain functions at once — kinesthetic, rational, musical, and emotional — further increasing your neural connectivity."

Following up from Monday nigh. Unlike pendulums, grapevines include a cross of the feet across the body. There are many versions of the grapevine. The one I use in class starts by crossing in front with the trailing leg; then the other leg steps to the side, the first leg crosses behind again and the second leg steps to the side.
