Christchurch McKennas GAA

We’ve just about caught our breath after another memorable season as Christchurch McKenna’s.

This year marked the 15th anniversary of the February 22 2011 earthquakes and the untimely passing of Owen McKenna, in whose honour the club is named. It was a privilege to welcome members of Owen’s family from Ireland and New Zealand to a game as we remembered and celebrated his life and legacy.

On the pitch, McKenna’s had a fantastic season—winning the Canterbury men’s football final and contributing to Canterbury GAA men’s junior, ladies junior and hurling final victories at the NZ Championships, hosted by Wellington/Hutt Valley GFHA New Zealand.

None of this would be possible without our players, their supporters, committee members, and volunteers. We truly appreciate all the time and effort that goes into making this club what it is.

Canterbury Men’s Football Final tonight FRIDAY 13 March! 🔴⚫

Christchurch McKennas take on Waimak Gaels in the final tonight at Spreydon Domain.

Throw-in is 6:30pm, so get down, bring the whānau, and get behind the lads for what should be a cracking game of football.

This week Christchurch McKennas said farewell or see you later to our friend, teammate and McKennas first ever chairperson Fiona Deehan as she, her husband James and two kids Cara and Lucas head for home. Over the past 14 years, Fiona’s hard work, dedication and positive attitude, both on and off the field, have been invaluable to us all at McKennas. James also played a big part in the club, winning numerous competitions with the McKennas hurlers.

To Fiona, James, Cara and Lucas, we would like to wish you all the best in this next chapter of your lives and sincerely thank you for all you have done for Christchurch McKennas. Slán go fóill.
