🏃‍♀️ Real NZ Story: Adventure Racer Falls Into a Tomo
During a major Adventure Race, a competitor slipped into a Tomo (limestone shaft) and became trapped. They were injured, in pain, and in a location impossible to access without specialised gear.
Because their TrackMe-connected inReach could send two-way messages, their team were able to tell RCCNZ and rescuers:
• their exact condition
• The depth and hazards of the Tomo
• That extraction required rope specialists
RCCNZ could tell them
• That a helicopter couldn’t fly due to weather, meaning rescuers had to walk in
• The timeframes and that a Rope Rescue expert was with LandSAR Team.
When the rescue team arrived, they were fully prepared:

In October '94 I started my Hato Hone St John journey, now I'm part of the Ambulance Preservation team. As part of this great bunch of people we look after our rolling history. This International Ambulance was made the same year I was born. Its a great drive, 4 speed manual grunty V8... and still when it's warmed up has some boogie.
