It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Terry ‘Soljah’ Hoggart. Terry passed on April 12th after a short battle with cancer.

Terry started his softball career in Auckland, moving through the grades and at age 19 stopped playing softball and moved to Marlborough. Here he met Marshall Rawiri, and was introduced to the Krushers and played in his first Tigers Tournament. This gave his love of softball back and began playing again. Here he met Jason Rei, and decided he wanted to be a part of the Krusher whanau. He travelled from Blenheim to Christchurch each weekend to play alongside his friends, even bringing his fur baby with him and became a regular around the diamonds. He took out 3 trophies one year, fluffy of the year, MVP and top batter, which goes to show what he brought to the game.

He went away with Monowai and competed in Australia at the Pan Pac Masters where he won a gold medal in 2018, and then at the New Zealand Masters with the Krushers being a 3 times gold medal winner in 2024, 2025 and his final masters game in Dunedin this year in 2026.

Terry was known as Uncle to a lot of kids in the softball community but especially to Noah Hall. He supported him as a young boy and spent a lot of time with him taking him fishing and teaching him about softball. His time spent with Jason Rei and his close softball friends was truely cherished and the friendships he made was a true testament to the person he was.

Terry will leave a big hole in the Krushers as well as all those who knew him, but leaves a legacy behind him. Rest easy Soljah, you will be missed.

Terry will be resting at home in Massey from today until Wednesday 15th April where his funeral will be held from 2pm at the Morrisons Funeral Home in Henderson, Auckland followed by his cremation at 3.30pm.
