πŸ“£There will be a Search and Rescue training exercise occurring in the harbour this weekend. This will include some activities being run out of CBYC, including mock evacuation drills. Access to the club driveway and concrete ramps will be reduced for the day on Saturday.

πŸš‘πŸš’There may be an Ambulance or other emergency vehicles down at the club on Saturday but there's no cause for concern. CBYC are proud to support this vital initiative and thank members and the local community for their understanding.

CBYC Club Champs, incorporating the Canterbury Yachting Association Optimist Champs were held last weekend. We were faced with very difficult winds on both days with very light and unstable conditions. Our volunteers and sailors pulled together to make the best of it with some close fought battles.

It was awesome to see strong attendance of Opti sailors from Naval Point Club Lyttelton and Christchurch Yacht Club. Youth sailing in Canterbury is definitely going from strength to strength πŸ’ͺ

Canterbury Opti Champs awards were given out at the close of sailing. Congratulations to:
πŸ₯‡st overall - Luca Blundell (CBYC)
πŸ₯‡st Female - Allie Perano (CBYC)
πŸ₯ˆnd - Carter Bright (CBYC)
πŸ₯‰rd - Samson Nuttall (NPCL/CBYC)

Thanks to Eliza Waszczak - Arizto Real Estate for sponsoring the amazing Build a Burger on Saturday πŸ™ŒπŸ”

It’s been a busy few weeks as the season draws to a close. Recently, a contingent of CBYC sailors travelled up to Kohimarama Yacht Club (KYC) to compete in the annual Girls Regatta. A festival of female sailing, it was amazing to see so many different classes being sailed. Our girls were inspired by the the presentations from Women that have made a career in sailing πŸ€™

CBYC were represented by

Starling:
Oak Galbraith (CYC/CBYC) - 1st place! πŸ₯‡
Mila Blundell

Optimist Green (coached by Miro Luxford):
Isabel Ma (πŸ₯ˆday 1 and πŸ₯‡day 2)
Margot Throssell
Pippa Vincent
Allie Perano

The Sailing action keeps rolling in for our junior and youth sailors! While the WASZPs were sending it at Manly, CBYC Optis and Starlings headed to Queen Charlotte Yacht Club, Picton for the Interislander. Our sailors all had a blast, with some impressive results to show for it:

Starling: A big fleet of 32 made for some competitive racing
Lucy Luxford - 1st overall πŸ†
Mila Blundell - 4th overall and 3rd female
Millie Limbrick - 10th overall
Caleb Perano - 12th overall
Jack Powell - 16th overall

Optimist Open: A smaller fleet but still very competitive.
Carter Bright - 3rd overall (on countback) and 2nd male
Samson Nuttall - 4th overall and 3rd male
Arlo Grogan - 9th overall
Harry LeHeron - 10th overall
Asher Grogan - 11th overall

Optimist White: Shout out to CBYC legends Allie Perano and Isabel Ma who took the leap from our Green Fleet to try their hand at White Fleet in the outer harbour. Both did brilliantly and learnt a lot in a big fleet of 29!
Allie Perano - 17th overall and 4th female
Isabel Ma - 20th overall and 6th female

Optimist Green: Not to be outdone, CBYC Greenies Eddie Collett and Pippa Vincent had a blast in Green Fleet. They've come home fizzing, with Eddie particularly stoked with a bullet (win) for the penultimate race πŸ‘Œ
