Knight in Shining Armour Jae Youn Secures Fairytale Finish for Damsel in Distress Belle

It was the sunset to a glorious career for Aaron Belle tonight at Court 3, but his spotlight was stolen by some stunning play from replacement Jae Youn Leeonel Messi. McLeod's Daughters started strong with Jack Vanderhaven collecting a finishing a deflected Jono Craig shot, but the team couldn't keep up the intensity and it was soon one a piece as Columbus hit back a rocket past the defence. Both teams traded goals for the rest of the half, with the Daughters using strong team play to pass the ball to Craig, who would inevitably ball hog and score. Leeonel Messi subbed on at six minutes and provided instant impact assisting a strong goal. But despite this at half time the Daughters were only leading 7-6.

In the team's half time huddle Captain Jonathan Sewell inspired the team with a rousing speech, 'It really excited us, made us hungry for the win' said defender Julian Annett-Chee, 'I felt really inspired after that talk, and really hungry for the win too,' he repeated. The team charged into the second half hungry and inspired, and thanks to some brilliant attacking and superior fitness were able to find the net a further six times in the half. Jonathan Sewell the Wall had a strong half in goal as well, proving he is so much more than a pretty face.

Despite his best efforts Aaron Belle could not score, however he was pleased with his efforts to sign off his career with a win. 'Yeah I'm really pleased with my efforts to sign off my career with a win' he said.

McLeod's Daughters wish Aaron Belle the most of his retirement, and hope to see him amongst the fans at a home game soon.

Well the dust has settled after a competent win, Will Shaw was potent with his boot netting 7 goals, and Jono Craig hit 4 away after arriving late to help secure the 13-6 victory. Tonight was only a friendly, but it proved the lads were able to fight it in the big leagues and not just score easy goals against children.
