Big news for rural recycling!
The Government has officially approved a new nationwide recycling scheme that brings Agrecovery and Plasback together into one simple, free and accessible programme for farmers and growers across New Zealand.
For more than 20 years, both organisations have worked hard to build awareness and improve on-farm recycling. Now, this new regulated scheme takes rural recycling to the next level — ensuring all producers play their part in managing plastic waste responsibly.

Farm plastics recycling scheme gets green light
As proud stewards of the land, New Zealand’s farmers and growers work hard to care for the environment. The Government is making this easier by approving regulations for a nationwide rural recycling scheme covering agrichemicals and farm plastics, Environment Minister Penny Simmonds says.

Recycling baling twine correctly is absolutely imperative. Now that the baling season is kicking off it's the perfect time to be cleaning up those twines from the fodder you've used through the winter.

We urge your assistance in supporting New Zealand farming in minimizing plastic contamination and ensuring contractor safety when handling plastic waste.

Unfortunately, RNZ has made an error in their calculations. The fee is determined by $462 per tonne of new bale wrap. Based on 40 rolls per tonne, the fee is approximately $11-55 per roll. If a roll can wrap 22 bales, the additional cost per bale is 52 cents.

Recycling can be a dirty and difficult business with contamination being a real issue but we have recently seen a new level of carelessness from the farming community.
A live shotgun cartridge was in a Plasback Bag delivered to our Christchurch site, fortunately we found it before anything serious occurred. We Bale the plastic which gets dropped into a large shredder prior to recycling and there's every chance this would detonate.
