🏁THE THING NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT BEING A SPEEDWAY DAD🏁

Nobody tells you it starts with a helmet that's too big.

A race suit rolled up at the sleeves.

A kid standing at the fence, watching someone else's car go by, saying:

"I want to do that."

And you say yes.

You don't know yet what "yes" actually costs.

You just know you can't say no to that look on their face.

So, you learn.

You learn what a diff is. You learn what a kill switch does. You learn how to bleed
brakes at 6am in the cold with numb fingers.

You learn to read a weather report like it's a message from God.

You learn the sound of an engine that's about to let go.

You learn to stand at the fence yourself now, arms crossed, heart in your throat, watching a kid who happens to be yours, chasing a line you taught them without ever saying a word.

Nobody tells you that half of being a speedway dad is just being there.

Being the bloke who tows the trailer. Being the bloke who wipes the visor. Being the bloke who says "you're alright" before you even know if they are.

Being the last one packing up in the pits when everyone else has already gone home.

Nobody tells you that you'll learn more about your kid in a race car than you ever did on a report card.

How they handle pressure. How they handle losing. How they handle somebody else taking the win they wanted.

How they look for you in the crowd, every single time, whether they won or crashed.

That the kid who used to ask "can we go to the track" will be the one asking if you're coming.

Nobody tells you that speedway doesn't ask if you're a father.

It just assumes you are.

Because somewhere between the pit gate and the front straight, that's exactly what it makes you.

Not because of the trophies. Not because of the laps.

But because of every early morning, every late night, every "watch this" you never once ignored.

Happy Father's Day to every dad standing trackside, tools in hand, heart on the line, the track will forget the results, but your kid never will forget you were there! ❤
