Amongst everyone who drew on our car, there was one young lad in particular that stood out.

Our new friend Laike, took his time to carefully craft a scaled down version of our car, including sponsor logos and everything!

So we had a special experience planned for Laike, to become our Rally Otago Zestino New Zealand Rally Hero! Joining me over the Otago Rally ceremonial start, an experience not many non-competitors get to experience.

He lapped up the experience, talking about his own first event coming up (An Autocross down south), talking about his dad's cool rally car, smiling and waving to the crowd as I drove us through the woft of cameras and spectators.

Laike is a sincere, honest and enthusiastic young lad. I look forward to seeing him out doing events in the not too distant future ✌️

Otago Rally is already nearly a month ago and we've been so busy getting ready for the next event that we haven't had time to post! Over the next couple days we will share our highlights from Rally Otago 2026.

Thanks to the team at Straightcurve Garden Edging New Zealand, Central Machine Hire Otago Rally organisers we put together something a bit special for the opening ceremony.

Families flocked to find our baby blue machine parked in the centre of the Octagon, Kids of all ages (including Ashburton's favourite son Donn McLaren) were excited to draw on our bonnet, so much so, we had to extend onto the guards and bumper!

There was nothing cooler than hearing "We came down here just so the kids could draw on the car, they've been excited for days", just seeing how much joy and fun they had, was exactly what we had hoped for and more!

We counted over 200 individual messages, drawings and signatures that we proudly wore on the car over the weekend.

There was one young lad called Laike, who in particular took a real shining to drawing on our car, doing an epic job with some cool sketches.. You'll hear more about him in our next post!

Multiple issues have plagued us today and we've fought bad dust all day. Fingers crossed we can fix overnight and get back out there.

Bring the kids down and get amongst the fun, we provide the canvas and the utensils.. just bring your little artists along for some fun!

It's Rally Week and we're heading to the 50th Anniversary of the Otago Rally!
