The ultimate winner of the Dunedin Marathon Mentorship Programme for 2026 is Michael Butler. He and his fellow recipients Bex Stanley and Cam Trewhitt, receive free mentorship from Mel Aitken, free race entry, free shoes and fitting from Shoe Clinic Dunedin and a coaching programme from Becky Aitkenhead. In addition Michael gets even more support including nutritional help and anything else that enables him to enhance and improve his running ability. We're proud to offer this Mentorship programme and wish our 2026 recipients well.

We’re delighted to announce the recipients of the inaugural 2026 Emerson’s Dunedin Marathon Mentorship Programme. The standard of applications was incredibly high, which made the selection process both exciting and very challenging.

Congratulations to Michael Butler, who was selected as this year’s principal recipient after strongly reflecting the values and goals of the programme. Michael will receive a comprehensive support package including coaching, nutrition guidance, shoes, apparel, and other assistance to help him pursue his running goals.

We were also impressed by the quality and commitment shown by two other applicants. As a result, Mel has chosen to extend mentorship support to them as well, including coaching assistance, running shoes, and training apparel.

In addition, Mel will also mentor the two winners of The Hits competition — a generous commitment given her already busy schedule.

Congratulations to all involved. We’re excited to support these runners on their journey and look forward to seeing where their dedication and hard work take them.
