Due to the snow and ice on the roads around the city and hill districts Land transport has advised people to stay at home where possible.
With the possibility of a big freeze after dark worsening driving conditions, training is canceled for tonight.

NO it’s not casual Thursday!
Leave your dogi at home, you’ll be practicing your self defence techniques and drills in street clothing instead of a loose fiting gi.
As we will also be doing some training in the dark.
(bring your mouth guard)

You’ll be wearing shoes in the dojo so please make sure they’re clean and check the soles and remove any stones or debris that could be stuck on wedged in BEFORE you step on the mats

NO CLASSES TONIGHT JULY 8TH

We are having a break tonight for the school holidays.
Family Karate and Kickboxing Lite will resume next week July 14th for those of you who are in town.

WINTER…..
This time 3 years ago we were training in the freezing cold on a concrete floor in dimly lit car park, having to stop training when cars moved in or out, breathing in all the exhaust fumes that hung around.
Now, we have a well lit matted dojo with a heat pump, a seperate bag room, a kitchen, an office, a changing area and a store room for all our gear.
The cold is no longer an excuse to skip, training (as if it ever was)
Winter will be over in 8 weeks, don’t let some cold weather outside ambush your progress inside.

In the meantime here’s a few photos of last Thursdays kickboxing class.

Well done and congrats to Alquen on passing his 4th kyu grading.
Anyone that knows Alquen knows he trains hard and deserved the chance to move up with his classmates at the grading a fortnight ago.
Unfortunately however he couldn’t make the grading due to a family commitment so a separate grading was held for him on Thursday night

The fact he was the only one grading meant all eyes were on him, which I’m sure provided a little more pressure than if he were grading in a group. That said, if he was nervous he didn’t show it as he turned in a solid grading deserving of promotion.

Hopefully, he managed to get Friday off work otherwise I suspect it might have been a long uncomfortable day courtesy of some the “enthusiastic” partners he had in the Kumite.
