Southern Turf Managers Association

June 2026

From the president,

Greetings all, seems such a long time between last year and now…. Well I guess it has been!

Hope 2026 is treating everybody well, time to get some information regarding AGM, field day and golf. I will start with a brief recap.

Last year our AGM was hosted on Weds 14th May by the Ranfurly GC with a pleasing turnout of around 45 members. Morning tea followed by a course walk, with David Howard leading as usual, with a demonstration of Fran Phares Air2G2 punching holes into greens. Thanks to Tom for organising a great lunch, and we moved on to the Curling rink where some fierce competition ensued, and a lot of fun was had.

Second field day was held on Tuesday 8th July at the North Otago GC with another good turnout of 40 plus members. Gary showed us his latest projects, tree removal seems to be a common theme particularly exotics around our parkland courses. Lunch and a course walk with direction from David.

Golf day was held at Winton GC during August with just over 40 players teeing it up. Greens were slick and the course played very well. Congrats to the trophy winners.

Financial report 2026

Please find attached last years financial report, membership numbers remain very good, albeit a lot of our central resort courses continue to support us with multiple memberships from each organisation.

Finances continue to increase, and the committee last year decided to transfer $10k from our current account to an additional term deposit, with better interest rates occurring. Enough remains in the current account to operate as normal, especially with this years subscriptions to come.

2026 Field days

Because of the lateness in the year the committee has decided to hold an AGM and golf day only this year. Our AGM will be held at the Tokorahi GC on Wedsnesday 22nd July from 10am morning tea. The golf day is likely to be the 18th August, venue to be confirmed. Apologies to anybody who was hoping for the normal schedule. We hope to get together earlier next year to have our usual 2 field days plus the golf. As a committee we try and spread venues between each region, to try and limit the travel time for all.
