A tardy Trout match report v the CD Jackals yesterday.
On a clearish afternoon, with some weather threatening, we didn't hesitate to bat when we won the toss. After the unlucky early loss off Dicko for a blob - we could only muster bit-part partnerships at best. Rooster looked sharp at the top of the order with 35 and Lobby got a few away (24). If it wasn't for wides (33) and late contributions from Goodie (27 off 24) and Ben (23 off 20) we would've gone into the break feeling pretty vulnerable. We thought 182 was enough. And it would have been if we could catch.
Our defence started well with Murls and Goodie nicking off an opener each and they should have been 3-15 but an umpire disagreed, turning down a caught behind shout that produced a sound a lumberjack would have yelled TIMBER after.
No excuses though as we dropped the next 5 opportunities presented before finally breaking the partnership 101 runs later. At this stage we were still a chance taking wickets regularly, but our 9th and final drop when they were 8 down, still needing 30 odd, proved the nail.
A pretty average start on the paddock but a beaut one off, with the lads enjoying opening night with a healthy crowd at Sunnyvale. Next Sat-dee couldn't come sooner.
The Trout's will only get slipperier x x
