Mōrena. There is NO training tomorrow night (20/8), due to the Tainui school show. We will make up this training by running classes during the school holidays. Keep warm!

On Thursday we got out the breaking machine and did some power breaking. Reverse knifehands, reverse turning kicks, elbows, and more. Such an exhilarating feeling when you get the break, and a tad tender when you don't! Power breaking is just as much a mental game as it is physical.

We had our opening night for Jikida Peninsula last night, an amazing turn out. Thanks to all who came out. We are looking forward to getting to know this new martial arts community.

Patrick Hosking competed in a local tournament today at Otago Uni club. A great experience and he put on a tenacious performance, making his instructors very proud.

We covered self defence on Tuesday, and opted for m***i. This provided us with insights into the impact our attire can have on our moves and also removed some formalities, which we realised has been restricting realism and therefore our responses.

Maisy Flynn was the recipient of our tenets award tonight, she had displayed, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit. She entered her first tournament this year and medalled, whilst displaying excellent self control and etiquette. Maisy graded this year, and was recovering from a flu, she gave it her all and dug deep showing her indomitable spirit. Maisy has turned up to class consistently all year, and even when injured continued to come and helped out. What potential this young martial artist shows, we look forward to seeing what she does next year.

I had the pleasure of spending time in Wellington over the weekend at our organisations National tournament for my role as Child Protection Officer. I was humbled to meet many wonderful martial artists who also have amazing careers and roles outside of TKD. I look forward to working with all these exceptional people to make positive change within NZ TKD.
