One round, a few hours or the whole weekend. Falcon Sporting Clays returns to Wairarapa, 18–20 September.

English Sporting 40, Super Sporting 60 and Rally Clays will run across three flexible days. Come when it suits you, shoot one event or several, and re-enter throughout the weekend with your best score counting.

New and casual shooters are genuinely welcome, with guided introductions, club equipment and support available. Experienced shooters can chase scores across two quality Sporting layouts, with plenty of competition throughout the grades.

With the huge backing of Falcon Ammunition, together with Hunting & Fishing Wairarapa, King and Henry and STIHL SHOP Masterton, there is again more than $3,500 in prizes across the September weekend.

NEW ZEALAND’S SECOND OFFICIAL RALLY CLAYS COMPETITION | Wairarapa, 18–20 September 🇳🇿

After a great first NZ outing in August, Rally Clays returns to Wairarapa Clay Target Club for round two.

Created in the UK by Simon Reinhold, Rally Clays is fast, head-to-head clay target match play. Two shooters compete side-by-side across seven target presentations, with the rally continuing until somebody misses.

August saw everyone from novice shooters through to national-level competitors having a go, with plenty more stopping around the clubhouse to watch the matches unfold.

Rally Clays NZ #2 runs throughout the Falcon Sporting Clays Weekend, 18–20 September, alongside English Sporting and Super Sporting.

Great shooting from the Wairarapa crew over the hill at Hutt Valley Clay Target Club on Sunday.

A big congratulations to John Hillier, who took out the 2026 Hutt Valley Sporting Club Championship with an excellent 93/100, the only score of the day to break into the 90s.

Reno Verde was right up there as well, finishing 4th overall with 85/100. Great to see a couple of members names sitting at the top of the leaderboard.

And with that bit of form on the board, attention now turns back home…

Looking for a sweet place to shoot tomorrow the 6th September? Check out what Hawkes Bay Clay Target Club are up to.

They’ve put together a fresh-looking club day with S***t, Compak and DTL all running, plenty of variety, and the flexibility to turn up and make as much or as little of the day as you like.

It’s great to see clubs trying different ideas, opening things up a bit and creating more flexibility for people to get out and shoot.

We’ve really enjoyed having a few of the Hawke’s Bay crew down at Wairarapa over recent months, and it’s excellent to see some new stuff happening up their way as well.

The weather is looking pretty decent in the Bay tomorrow, so if you’re keen for a drive and a good day of shooting, head up and support what they’re putting on.

A few Wairarapa Clay Target Club shooters made the trip north for the Rotorua Rod and Gun Club - INC President’s Cup weekend, and it certainly gave everyone plenty to think about.

Saturday’s handicap event saw many make it through to the shoot-off, where they had to work through some tough targets. Great shooting from Charlie finishing with a place in the handicap.

Sunday’s President’s Cup Sporting stepped things up another notch, with an extremely challenging course. John Hillier came through with 3rd in the Senior category.

And a special mention to Kade Wurster from Apex Coaching, who spent a few days coaching at Wairarapa earlier this year. Kade shot top score on both days, including the only score in the 90s on Sunday with a 93, finishing seven targets clear of the field. Safe to say he walks the walk as well as talks the talk. Worth the session next time we get him back to Wairarapa for coaching.

The first of four 2026 Falcon Sporting Clays weekends is done, and it was an awesome start to the series.

Across the three days we ran English Sporting, Super Sporting and the first RALLY CLAYS competition in New Zealand, with a really good mix of experienced competitors, regular club shooters, newer members and people coming along for an introduction to clay target shooting.

The Sporting fields did exactly what we want them to do. At the sharp end there was plenty of competition, with three shooters reaching 39/40 in English Sporting and the leading Super Sporting scores at 57/60. At the same time, we had a number of first-time and newer shooters working through introductions and then heading out to shoot their own rounds, while members who only started with us last year are now getting more confident and moving into Super Sporting as well.

That progression is a big part of what these weekends are about. We want good competitive shooting, but we also want a club environment where new people can get started properly, improve, meet other shooters and keep coming back.

Falcon Ammunition's support of the programme is a massive part of making that possible. Falcon is providing approximately $12,000 in ammunition prizes across the four-month series, allowing us to put meaningful prizes right through the grades including novice shooters. From the August weekend alone, 20 different shooters will receive Falcon ammunition through English Sporting, Super Sporting and Rally Clays.

That sort of backing gives clubs room to try new formats, put more into participation and give developing shooters another reason to get involved. We’re extremely grateful to have Falcon behind what we’re doing at Wairarapa.

The other big addition was Rally Clays, which could hardly have had a better New Zealand debut. It ran in front of the clubhouse throughout the weekend, drew plenty of spectators, produced some serious rallies and very quickly became something people wanted another crack at. We’ll have plenty more on Rally Clays separately, but it is definitely staying.

Thanks also to Hunting & Fishing Wairarapa, King and Henry and STIHL SHOP Masterton, who are adding $2,000 in supporting prizes across the series.

Saturday at the Falcon Weekend, and Rally Clays is flying

If you’ve been sitting at home watching the weather forecast and deciding not to come, you’ve been missing out.

The forecast in the lead-up to this weekend has changed about seventeen times and regularly looked fairly grim. In reality, Friday was amazing and today was also an absolute beauty. Blue sky, a light nor’easter and a cracking day to be outside shooting.

It’s August in the Wairarapa. The forecast is going to look questionable sometimes. Bring a jacket and come anyway. We’ve got roofs over a number of the stands, Rally Clays is under the gazebo beside the clubhouse, and the fire is going inside. A bit of winter weather doesn’t need to cancel a day outdoors.

And then there’s RALLY CLAYS .

This thing has been an absolute winner.

We’ve already had 16 competition matches for points, plus another half-dozen friendly head-to-head matches just for the fun of it. Novices and developing shooters have been getting amongst it, while some of the experienced shooters have produced some seriously long rallies under pressure.

It’s so encouraging to see everything happening around it. Spectators gathered on the verandah, plenty of banter, people watching every target, and shooters discovering that breaking the clay is only half the battle when you’re reloading and your opponent is attacking their clay super fast trying to put you straight back under pressure.

We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve heard some version of “this event is a definite winner” over the last two days.

And because Rally Clays is running in separate pools, you don’t need to be one of the top shooters to get involved:

B Grade Pool
C / Novice Pool

Get yourself into a suitable match, pick up some points and you might be surprised where you end up on the leaderboard. Some points have been over almost before they started, while others have developed into proper long battles. The unpredictability and tactics is a huge part of the fun.

We’re back into it Sunday from 10am, with English Sporting, Super Sporting and Rally Clays all running again.

Tomorrow’s forecast currently has a cool southerly around, but no daytime rain showing on the latest 48-hour forecast. Either way, we’ll be there.

So if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, come out tomorrow and have a crack. Shoot a sporting round, bring a couple of mates, challenge somebody on Rally Clays, or simply come and see what all the talk is about.

Falcon Sporting Clays kicks off today!!

Shooting starts from 12pm Friday, with English Sporting, Super Sporting and the New Zealand launch of RALLY CLAYS running right through the weekend.

The latest 48-hour forecast is actually looking pretty reasonable around Greytown and Featherston. Either way, we’ve got roofs over a number of shooting stands, Rally Clays will be under cover beside the clubhouse, and the fire will be going inside.

So bring a jacket and come shooting.

As always, we’ll also have live online scoreboards running throughout the weekend for English Sporting, Super Sporting and Rally Clays, updated as results come into the office.
