South Westland Badminton are hosting our friends from the Greymouth Badminton Club and Hokitika Badminton Club for our annual Interdistrict tournament in Franz Josef from 10am Saturday.

Draw -
10am South Westland v Hokitika

12pm South Westland v Greymouth

2pm Greymouth v Hokitika

Then prizegiving and dinner at The Speights Landing Bar & Restaurant afterwards.

Anyone welcome to come along and watch the fastest sport in the world getting played

Great send off to an amazing man today.

Thank you Francie for everything you have done for badminton in South Westland especially Whataroa.

Our badminton hit on Monday was a great mix of the old and the young and great stories told.

We will never forget your passion and enthusiasm that you played with and coached.

Francie’s funeral - Whataroa Church Wednesday.
Remember if you have a South Westland Badminton please wear it for a mark of respect.
We will have some shuttles for people to put on his coffin at the cemetery.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of
Francis W. Graham
(Francie)

Francis W. Graham, affectionately known as Francie, was a cherished local legend, a key community pillar, and an amazing badminton coach and mentor. His passing will leave a significant void in our South Westland Badminton Community, but his legacy continues to live on through the countless lives he touched.

His dedication was such that many who were coached by him later had the pleasure of watching him teach their own children and even grandchildren, a testament to his lasting influence and the love of our game and our community.

It was a highlight for our South Westland Badminton Club to honour Francie in 2021 with the Francis Graham Shield to be played between teams in the South Westland Badminton Competition and for his Whataroa team to win it this year.

His competitive nature and words of wisdom will be surely missed … keep running Francie.

We will be honouring Francie on Monday at 7pm by playing badminton at the Whataroa Hall.. all are welcome
