The Sharks know they'll need a full team performance and will be aiming to showcase the football that has seen them rise to the top of the table. With plenty still to play for, every point is crucial as the season is entering its next phase.

The Pioneer Brand Products NZ Wainui Sharks made the trip south to take on Wairoa Athletic with a depleted squad, knowing they would need a big effort from every player available to secure the three points.

The Sharks started brightly, moving the ball well and stringing together several promising passages of play despite the sodden conditions. While the football was encouraging, the final touch was missing and frustration began to creep in as chances went begging.

Wairoa grew into the contest with their direct counter attacking style, winning key 50/50 battles and creating opportunities of their own. However, it was the Sharks who struck first. A dangerous cross from left winger Oliver Aldridge found Josh Baty, who made no mistake, blasting home to give the visitors a deserved lead.

The advantage was short lived. A midfield error allowed Wairoa to regain possession, and their attacker punished the Sharks with a superb long-range strike that found the bottom corner to level the scores.

The match remained scrappy as both sides battled the conditions, but Josh Baty took matters into his own hands. Beating several defenders, he unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner to restore the Sharks' lead heading into the break.

Half Time: Wairoa Athletic 1 - 2 Pioneer Wainui Sharks

The Sharks received a stern reminder at halftime about sticking to their style of football, and the response was immediate. The visitors dominated the second half, creating chance after chance, with the Wairoa goalkeeper producing several excellent saves to keep his side in the contest.

The pressure eventually paid off when a corner delivered by Baty found Ibbetson, who rose highest to power a header into the net.

Five minutes later, another Sharks corner caused problems. This time Ryan Zent's delivery evaded everyone and drifted straight into the far corner to extend the lead.

With the result becoming more comfortable, Oliver Aldridge capped off another strong performance with a surging run and dangerous cross. Stand-in captain Korbi "The German Steam Train" was on hand to tap home and seal the result.

Despite travelling with a depleted squad, the Sharks showed tremendous character, depth, and quality to produce a dominant second-half display and return home with another valuable three points.

A perfect sunny day set the scene for a huge top of the table clash as the Pioneer Brand Products NZ Wainui Sharks welcomed Thistle Vintage and the Sharks delivered another dominant performance.

Following on from last week, the Sharks started with relentless attacking pressure and it wasn’t long before a slick team move ended with Sam Martin tapping home at the back post to open the scoring. Soon after, the Sharks won a corner and Phil Watson delivered a perfect ball for Ibbetson to rise highest and nod home the second.

Thistle managed to string together a few long balls, but the Sharks defence stood tall all game. Furlan and Torrie were solid at the back, marshalled superbly by Player of the Day Wortherspoon.

Just before halftime, Martin grabbed his second after another flowing team move, showing great strength on the ball before placing his shot perfectly into the corner to send the Sharks into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The second half started exactly how the first finished, with the Sharks refusing to let up the pressure. It wasn’t long before Ibbetson grabbed his double after breaking away and powering his finish home.

Soon after, the German steam train Korbi Schallinger entered the match and wasted no time making an impact, powering home a header from a beautifully delivered free kick.

The Sharks were smelling goals and continued to pile on the pressure. Two more well worked moves down the right proved too strong for Thistle, with Watson burying an unstoppable shot into the corner before Apeldoorn capped off the afternoon with his first goal for the club.

A huge 7-0 win for the Sharks

It’s been a strong couple of weeks for the boys as they continue building the style of football they want to play this season. The squad is already looking ahead to next weekend and aiming to keep the momentum rolling.

The Pioneer Brand Products NZWainui Sharks bounced back in style with an impressive performance against Shockers Marist on Saturday.

The Sharks started well, keeping possession and controlling the game from the opening whistle. It didn’t take long for the chances to start flowing and soon the first goal came when Ibbetson placed a shot into the bottom corner.

Shockers soon had a chance of their own, but the Sharks keeper came up with a huge one on one save to keep the lead intact. It didn’t take long for the Sharks to find a second goal, with Phil Watson finding Ryan Zent who also calmly placed the ball into the corner.

With halftime approaching, the Sharks weren’t finished yet. A Watson corner found the head of Dan Torrie whose looping header floated into the top corner to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the Sharks went away from their flowing football and the game became a battle of who could keep the ball for more than a few passes, with both teams giving possession away too easily.

With 20 minutes to go, the Sharks sorted the passing out and the chances started to come again. Soon after, Josh Baty had a bottom corner shot well saved, however five minutes later he was brought down in the box. Ibbetson stepped up and confidently slotted home the penalty.

To finish the match, Charlie David found some space with an amazing run before blasting a shot into the top corner.

The Sharks were pleased with the bounce-back performance and the way the boys followed the game plan through the match.
