Back to Bowls! It's our turn! It's our year!
This weekend our Bowls Gisborne East Coast teams head to Ōhope, taking on Waiariki on Saturday and Bay of Plenty on Sunday.
The blue and gold are ready, the excitement is building, and Tairāwhiti is fired up for the challenge! 💪🔥

Congratulations to the following players who will be representing Bowls Gisborne East Coast in our first representative outing of the season! 💙💛
On Saturday they’ll take on Waiariki Rohe, before facing Bay of Plenty on Sunday.
Both days will be played at Ōhope Bowling Club on 26 & 27 September.
We wish all our players the very best, Go well!, Go hard! and represent BGEC with pride!

In preparation, all teams were twilight training tonight in perfect conditions at Poverty Bay Bowling Club under the lights, was great to see!

🏆 CENTRE MIXED PAIRS WINNERS🏆
Congratulations to Tanya Harrison (skip) and Andrew Ball of Gisborne Bowling Club, our 2026 Centre Mixed Pairs Champions, after a strong 16–8 victory over Kahutia’s Geoff Pinn (skip) and Mary Taingahue in today’s final.
Tanya and Andrew came out firing, racing away to a 13–2 lead after seven ends with some excellent bowls and putting plenty of pressure on their opponents.
Geoff and Mary weren’t going away quietly though, fighting their way back through the middle stages and closing the gap to 14–8 after 13 ends.
But the Gisborne pair held their nerve when it mattered, taking the final two ends to close out the match 16–8 and secure the Centre title. 🏆👏
A fantastic performance from Tanya and Andrew and a well-deserved championship win! Congratulations also to Geoff and Mary on reaching the final after a great weekend of bowls.

Congratulations to Poverty Bay’s Jack Clark and Coral Hodges, winners of the Constellation Round Robin Tournament! 👏
Jack and Coral finished the day with 2 wins and a draw from 3 rounds, great result!

A big thank you to Kahutia Bowling Club for hosting the weekend’s tournaments, providing great running greens and, as always, wonderful hospitality.

Our first Centre event of the season for 2026-27 got underway today at Kahutia Bowling Club, with a great field of 22 teams entered.
Kahutia President Geoff Pinn welcomed everyone and officially handed the greens over to the Centre. Centre President Vern Alder then welcomed players, gave an update on the Conditions of Play, and got play underway for the Centre Mixed Pairs.
After three rounds of qualifying, the top 16 teams progressed through to the knockout stage. Kyle Pinn and Dayvinia Mills finished as the top qualifiers, with four teams recording 3 wins from 3 games.
It was also fantastic to see a good number of Junior teams entered and competing strongly.
Good luck to all our Top 16 qualifiers as the tournament continues! 🏆

CENTRE MIXED PAIRS – 12th & 13th SEPTEMBER
Please find attached the Entries, Conditions of Play and Draw for the Centre Mixed Pairs, being held at Kahutia Bowling Club this weekend.
Also attached are the General Conditions of Play for Centre Events.
⚠️ Please take particular note of the requirements around correct clothing and footwear, as penalties may apply for non-compliance.

National Champ of Champ Mixed Pairs – Final Update:
A tough finish to the campaign for Don & Krystel Williams, going down 11–3 to Wanaka’s Tom Malcolm & Kim Tilly in their final game.
Earlier they produced a fantastic comeback against Agnes & David Motu, recovering from 9–0 down to level at 11-all, before narrowly losing 12–11.
With a bye to finish, that wraps up Don & Krystel’s National Champ of Champ campaign.
Well done to our Tolaga Bay father-and-daughter duo, you represented your club and Gisborne East Coast with pride 💙 💙 💙
