Introducing the new NZC Mana Wāhine Coaching Collective cohort

This collective brings together women working as coach developers, regional leaders and local leaders across community cricket to grow confidence, capability and influence in the cricket system.

Through this action-focused programme, participants will explore inclusive coaching practice, build familiarity with the Women’s Coaching Toolbox, and develop practical plans to help create meaningful change at club level.

We’re excited to see the impact this cohort will have across the game 🏏

🎊🏏Intermediate Festival 2026🏏🎊

We had a great day at our Intermediate Cricket Festival, with 4 girls teams and 5 boys teams taking part from Sonrise Christian School, Campion College, and Gisborne Intermediate.

It was awesome to see the level of participation and enthusiasm across all teams, with players showing great skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. The festival provided a fantastic opportunity for students to enjoy cricket, represent their schools, and connect with others in a fun and supportive environment.

A big thank you to the schools, teachers, and supporters who helped make the day a success.

Also, a big thank you to the boys on the BBQ who kept everything running smoothly and everyone well fed, your efforts are hugely appreciated! 👏🔥🏏

🏏Poverty Bay Mens Vs Lakelands Mens🏏

On Sunday at Smallbone Park in Rotorua, our Poverty Bay Men made the journey from Gisborne to take on a Lakelands Select XI featuring senior players from Whakatāne, Rotorua, Taupō and Tokoroa.

The fixture was initiated by forward-thinking members of Poverty Bay Cricket, with strong support from Peter Zanzottera at Northern Districts Cricket. The goal is to create more aspirational opportunities for players and lay the foundation for a proposed Heartland Competition in the 2026–27 season.

Match Summary
With travel considerations in mind, the match was reduced to 35 overs per side. Poverty Bay batted first and showed promising intent early, playing several attractive shots. However, they were unable to convert starts into substantial scores. Gautam Sareen top-scored with a well-made 37, anchoring the innings as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Lakelands’ bowling unit kept things tight throughout, with young spinner Kaiden Young leading the effort and helping restrict Poverty Bay to 143.
The Chase
In reply, Lakelands approached the chase with confidence and positive intent. The top order laid a strong platform, with:
• Harry Singh – 40
• Mitch Kane – 40
• Jesse Russ – 38
Their contributions ensured the target was always within reach.
James Burrell was the standout bowler for Poverty Bay, delivering an excellent spell of 2/11 from 6 overs, but the modest total left little margin for error.
Lakelands completed the chase in the 28th over, finishing 144/3 and securing victory with 7 wickets in hand.

Looking Ahead
This match marks an exciting step toward broader regional competition. With continued support from Northern Districts and growing enthusiasm among players and administrators, the vision of a Heartland Cricket Competition is gaining real momentum.

More fixtures like this are eagerly anticipated, watch this space next summer.

🏏PBCA Prize Giving 2026🏏

What a great way to wrap up the season at our PBCA Prize Giving. A special opening for our Senior Prize Giving with Kayley Knights Debut signed playing shirt sponsored by Jason Trowill who donated to the PBCA Committee. Kayley is the first White Fern to be born in Gisborne.

It was awesome to come together and celebrate the players, coaches, volunteers, officials, and supporters who have all played a part in making this season possible. From junior cricket through to senior cricket, there has been a huge amount of commitment, effort, and passion shown across our cricket community.

A big congratulations to all of our award winners and recognised individuals. Your efforts, performances, and contributions to the game have not gone unnoticed and are thoroughly deserved.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank everyone who has supported cricket in Poverty Bay this season — our clubs, schools, volunteers, whānau, sponsors, officials, coaches, grounds staff, and committee members. Cricket simply does not happen without the people who give their time and energy behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening a special one. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the season that was and celebrate the people who continue to grow and strengthen the game in our region.

Ngā mihi nui to our whole cricket community for another season of commitment, effort, and support. 💙🏏
