Damien, affectionately known as Damo, chose to take up refereeing when injuries halted his playing career. He impressed selectors at the 2017 Jock Hobbs U19 final and was awarded a spot in the 2018 national referee squad. Damo is one of the fittest referees in NZ and a regular winner of the annual PBRRA undie run. His top bronco time of 4:40 is up there with the best (Damian McKenzie has a time of 4:28). Chasing sheep during the week has clearly impacted his physique.

Hamish is our venerable quiz master. After refereeing five Lee Brothers Shield finals, it’s not surprising he has a wealth of rugby law knowledge. Inspired by the calmness Hamish showed under pressure, Sade penned the 1984 hit ‘Smooth Operator’ in his honour. After 15+ years of service with the whistle, he now coaches emerging referees. No doubt Hamish will continue to provide a positive influence on the next five generations of referees. You can BANK on that!

Got it right this time! Exciting rugby up ahead this weekend. Glad to welcome Damien back to the middle this weekend. Big thank you to all our volunteers who ensure all the games have officials.
