Change in format for the Easter junior open!!

ATTENTION!
New format — same sponsors, same great spot prizes!

With Eastern recently being awarded NIJAGs (originally scheduled to be held in Wellington), and with NIJAGs taking place only three weekends prior — also as an age‑group event at the same venue — we feel there is no need to run another similar age‑group tournament so close together.

Instead, we will be holding an Eastern Junior Tournament for all levels of our Eastern junior players, without separating into age groups. This event will still take place on the same weekend.

We also encourage players to enter NIJAGs, which will be another fantastic Eastern event. It already has over 90 players entered from all over New Zealand, including the South Island and as far north as Whangārei.

This tournament will continue to be part of the selection process for our Junior Eastern Team, and the team will still be announced at Prize Giving.
All funds raised will go towards supporting the travelling Eastern Junior Team for Nationals.

We will once again field an impressive 10 teams across the grades, but there will be no easy path to Nationals this year. Every team will need to earn their place at the Superchamps Finals in September through the District Eliminations on 25–27 June.

District Eliminations Update 🔥

We know there is a lot of anticipation around the draw for the District Eliminations, being held at Waipukurau Lawn Tennis & Squash Club 25–27 June. 👀

Team entries officially closed at 5pm today, and the draw will be finalized and published before the end of the weekend.

We can confirm there are 30+ team entries across the event, making it one of the strongest fields we’ve seen in recent years. 💪

One thing we do know is that not one of our 10 teams will receive direct entry to Nationals. For some of our players, that might be a little hard to comprehend after being spoilt with direct qualification over the past few years! 😅

For now, sit tight, keep training, and get on court. The road to September is set to be a challenging one, and every team will need to earn their place. 🔥💛🖤

The Gisborne Boys' High and Girls' High squash teams will be at Kevin Hollis Glass tomorrow from 12pm, washing cars for a koha (donation) as we fundraise to attend the NZ Secondary Schools Championships in Christchurch.

Every donation, big or small, helps our players represent Gisborne and our schools on the national stage. Your support will help cover travel, accommodation, and tournament costs for these hardworking young athletes.

So come on down, treat your car to a clean, have a chat with the team, and help us get to Christchurch!

Awesome effort from our Boys representing GBHS at the recent super 8

Super 8 Bronze for Tūranga Tāne 🏆🔴⚫

Our GBHS Tūranga Tāne Squash team delivered an outstanding performance at the Super 8 Championships in Tauranga, finishing 3rd overall after entering the tournament as the 4th seed.

The boys opened with a strong win over Hamilton Boys' High School, battled hard against eventual champions Tauranga Boys' College A, and then swept Rotorua Boys' High School 5-0 to secure a playoff for third.

Victories from Hugo Phillips, Deyzell Hiraka-Love, Casius Williams, and Ollie O'Connell sealed a podium finish and an improvement on their pre-tournament seeding.

A huge congratulations to the team for their determination, sportsmanship, and pride in representing our kura.

Thank you also to the whānau supporters and tournament hosts who helped make the event a success.

🏆 Super 8 Squash Tournament – Good Luck Boys! 🏆

Today, our local squash talent from Napier Boys' High School (NBHS) and Gisborne Boys' High School (GBHS) head to Tauranga to compete in the Super 8 Squash Tournament at Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre.

The event brings together eight schools from the Central, Eastern, and Bay of Plenty regions for a full two days of exciting competition. Teams of five players will battle it out over four rounds, with three rounds of pool play followed by crossover matches to determine the final placings.

NBHS enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, behind the powerhouse Tauranga Boys' College team, while GBHS are seeded 4th and will be looking to make their mark.

Most importantly, it's fantastic to see squash showcased on a stage like this, giving our local players the opportunity to represent their schools and compete against some of the best young talent in the region.
