Ngahiwi Horses

Ngahiwi Horses are bred by Bruce Holden at Ngahiwi Station.

Local horses crossed with European warmbloods produce outstanding competitors in all equine disciplines, in New Zealand and overseas and sold as 2 or 3 year-olds, unbroken but well-handled.

The lovely grey/dun, (Ngahiwi Cardento X Ngahiwi OneEye) [2/22] as with the other geldings this year, has the same Ngahiwi Cardento credentials as his brothers, but his mum also has her X factor. She was Cotton’s Daughter, by Ngahiwi OneEye our stallion who produced exceptional progeny. Ngahiwi OneEye was by Corland VDL ‘Keur En Elite’, sire of Grand Prix progeny.

This is the “grey-dun” gelding, of interesting colour (Ngahiwi Cardento X Ngahiwi OneEye) [2/22]. Another happy jumper he has great breeding for the job.

This is our athletic black gelding, (Ngahiwi Cardento X Ngahiwi Cupid) [1/22]. Another one with serious jumping breeding, his mother was Ngahiwi Cracker who showjumped with Katie Meredith. His great-grandfather was Corland VDL from the famous VDL Stud in the Netherlands.

Finally we have good weather and can bring the boys in for freejumping.
This is the Bay Gelding, (Ngahiwi Cardento X Ngahiwi OneEye) [4/22] - huge jumping genes in this one so he was very relaxed about our low jumps …

“The Grey Gelding” (Ngahiwi Cardento X Carrado) [3/22]

The grey gelding’s story so far; he was born in December 2022 at home in our maternity unit(!), the woolshed paddock. After getting established he and his mum “Clypso Daughter” went back out on the hills with other mares and foals. At weaning he was handled, being taught to lead, tie up, load on the truck, and work with humans, and then went back on the hills. With occasional visits back in to the yards for refresher handling, the latest being two weeks ago, he has lived on the hills. He knows how to read the ground, and not to be afraid of puddles! He is ready now to take on the wider world! It will be a good story!
